There are three different types of currencies inMortal Kombat 1: Dragon Krystals, the currency used for the microtransaction store, Seasonal Currency, used for Season-exclusive cosmetics, and Koins. Koins are used as offerings at the Shrine, theMK1version of the Krypt, in exchange for random gear, skins, and concept art.

There are tons of items in the Shrine, including some that are also on offer as real-money cosmetics in the shop, and earning all of them is as easy as spending tens of thousands of Koins. The fastest way to get Koins inMortal Kombat1is to complete all Tutorial challenges, but there are lots of other methods to get Koins tocomplete one’s collection of Shrine items.
Complete The Tutorial (& Kombo Challenges)
Arguably the easiest way to earn lots of Koins quickly is totake on theMortal Kombat 1Tutorial, andthe additional Kombo Challenges for each character. On the Main Menu, select “PRACTICE” then select the Tutorial tab. Here, players will find a comprehensive tutorial of the game’s combat mechanics from basic attacks to the math that powers the game’s frame data.
ExperiencedMK1players can breeze through the regular Tutorial in less than half an hour,while less-knowledgeable playersmay take some time learning the ins and outs ofMK1.Players earn 250 Koins for each sub-stage, and upwards of 1000 Koins for completion of each Tutorial category.
Once a tutorial has been completed, or after completing several in a row, head to the Notifications tab of your Account menu. Here, earned Tutorial Koins are tallied up and can be collected. These Tutorials can only be completed once for Koins, making this a speedy but single-use method to earn currency for theMK1Shrine.
After finishing all the basic Tutorials, take on individual Character Kombo Challenges to earn even more Koins. These Kombo Challenges range from easy two-part combos to extensive Aerial and Kameo-reliant combos that can take a long time to master. The first three or four challenges for each character aren’t too difficult, though, and can bea good way to practice a character’s basic moves while earning Koins on the side.
Play Invasions, Towers, & Online PvP
Arguably the most consistent way to earn Koins is to head into one of the three main game modes inMortal Kombat 1:Invasions, Towers, and PvP online matchmaking. Kasual, King of the Hill, and Kombat League are all viable ways to earn Koins in online matches, but Kombat League rewards the most of the three.Towers reward Koins for each level completed, while Invasions reward Koins after a number of challenges.
Though it’s a core feature ofMortal Kombat 1and a big draw for many players,theMK1campaign doesn’t reward Koins(though it does reward cosmetics).
Play Ranked Kombat League, Not Kasual
Though both Kasual and Ranked Kombat League matches reward players with Koins,Kombat League is the much more lucrative – and much more difficult – option. Kombat League matches players against combatants of a similar skill level, and provides a ranking system that offers special seasonal rewards at different competitive tiers.

Kasual matches are good for practicing, but to earn the most Currency and Koins (and XP, too), Kombat League is the thing to dedicate time to. Not only do players earn more Koins this way, they will also progress their rank and earn those seasonal exclusive items –if they can keep ranking up and winning matches, that is.
Complete Daily and Weekly Quests/Tasks
A good way to passively earn Koins is tocomplete Daily and Weekly quests. Players can find these quests in their Account menu. Open this by pressing the input listed next to your Account profile banner on the main menu, which should open up the Quests screen by default. This menu also lets players see Character Mastery, their account stats, and the Notifications tab for Tutorial Koins.
Players can see what Daily and WeeklyMK1quests are available on this menu, as well as the rewards for completing them. Each individual challenge tends to reward a small amount of Seasonal Currency, but bycompleting enough Challenges as different fighters, players will also earn additional rewards –sometimes, the reward for completing five Daily quests is a sum of Koins.
