The release ofMonster Hunter Rise: Sunbreakat the end of June brought plenty of major additions to the massively successful game.Sunbreaknot only introduced a new story surrounding the legendary Three Lords and a new locale, but plenty of fan-favorite monsters from the series' past as well asnew variants of existing monsters. Capcom also announced thatSunbreakwould feature frequent free updates to the expansion with new content set to come throughout the rest of 2022. Now, the developer has given fans a preview of a new monster to come in August.

During Capcom’s 2022 Showcase, the developer announced thatMonster Hunter Rise’s first major expansion would be receiving multiple free updates following its June 30th release. The presentation revealed three major content updates to come in August, Fall 2022, and Winter 2022 with more planned for 2023. While Capcom has yet to reveal any of its planned content for Fall or Winter, the August update has already confirmed the Lucent Nargacuga as a variant of the popular monster. Now, a new trailer forSunbreak’s August update shows the first update’s star monster in action.

Sunbreak’s newest trailer features a team of four hunters duking it out with the Lucent Nargacuga in one of the update’s new locations, the Forlorn Arena. The gameplay-focused video shows off many of the Nargacuga variant’s signature attacks, including its ability to turn invisible for surprise attacks and shooting spikes to hit multiple enemies. The Lucent Nargacuga also retains many of theattack patterns of its original form, using multiple parts of its body to attack.

While Lucent Nargacuga has been the headliner, Capcom has already revealed plenty more coming with theSunbreakexpansion’s first free update. Alongside the expansion’s release, Capcom revealed another monster joining Lucent Nargacuga during the August update withSeething Bazelgeuse set to be addedto the game. Later updates are confirmed to feature even more new monsters being added with new monster subspecies and “powered-up monsters” planned for the Fall and Winter updates.

Sunbreak’s release comes just over a year afterMonster Hunter Risetook the gaming world by storm. Since its March 2021 launch,Monster Hunter Risehas sold well over 10 million copies to become one of the best-selling games in the franchise.Riserecently placed in thetop 20 best-selling games of 2022’s first half with the game bolstered not only by the release ofSunbreak, but alsoRise’s long-awaited PC port in January.Sunbreak’s free updates throughout the year will give players even more reason to join the hunt once again.
