Summary
A patch creator has successfully madeBloodbornerun on PlayStation 5 with a hack that raises the frame rate cap. PlayStation 5 jailbreaking has come far in recent months, likely offering the tools that were used to unlock the frame rate of several games, a list that now includesBloodborne.
Even after eight years,Bloodbornenever leaves the public consciousness for long, often resurrected in the form of discourse on Twitter. It has become a running joke that whenever PlayStation has a State of Play or Showcase,aBloodborneremaster or PC port announcement is imminent. That timeline has continued to evade fans for the better part of a decade, but it has not fazed some committed folks from trying to patchBloodbornethemselves.

And a patch author known as illusion has now achieved what so many have hoped for, albeit unofficially. Following proof that the game was being launched on a PS5, the video then showcases an early section ofBloodbornerunning at 60 FPS, and the journey through Yharnam seems to play without issue. Lance McDonald confirmed that hisunofficialBloodbornepatch was used alongside a hacked PS5to achieve this feat.
McDonald, a video game content creator who specializes in hacking and working with developer tools, made an unofficial 60 FPS mod forBloodborneover two years ago, but it was limited to the PlayStation 4, a console that has been jailbroken for some time. Known for his work with the ill-fatedPTdemo,McDonald showcasedBloodborneat 60 FPSon PS5 via his YouTube channel in June but little was known about how he achieved it. Illusion’s tweet confirms that their modded version ofBloodborneworks on PS5 within a firmware version range of 3.00-4.51.
For context, PS5 hacking is limited by the version of software installed on the console. A Kernel exploit was released in 2022 that allowed read/write access which, while not considered a complete jailbreak, proved to be invaluable for modders and patch makers. But only PS5s with firmware lower than version 4.51 are vulnerable. Between this, a recent memory breakthrough, and illusion posting further videos of other games with a higher frame rate and/or resolution, the future of PlayStation modding seems promising. An official remaster or patch forBloodbornemay continue to be wishful thinking for now, but at least gamers have these modders tokeep the dream ofBloodborneat 60 FPS alive.
