A new mod forHalf-Life 2has just come out which essentially reverses the entire game, making the experience pretty surreal. The title has been out since 2004 and although athird game in the series is likely not going to happen, the 18 years that have elapsed since the second installment was released means that many fans probably know every aspect of the sequel in great detail. Given this, players have likely formed habits forged over many years, but things are about to get topsy-turvy.
There are already somepretty incredibleHalf-Life 2modsout there, some of which practically turn it into a different game entirely. One such example converts the Valve title intoGoldenEye, while another gives players the opportunity to play through the levels taken from the beta version of the sequel. The vanilla experience alone is already enough for many, with the game going down as one of the best first-person shooters ever, but the modding community is awash with many talented teams and individuals who are hell-bent on switching things up or adding custom content. However, none are quite as headache-inducing as this one.

As spotted by PCGamesN, user NvC_DmN_CH has unveiled theirHalf-Life 2mod, whose only purpose is to mirror the entire game. It might not seem like it would be much of a significant change, but a video showing it off demonstrates just how much it can really throw players off. Where seasoned veterans of the game would instinctively know which way to turn at the end of a corridor, it now becomes something of a grueling task as the player can easily get confused. Footage from numerous areas will likely have some people massaging their temples as the mind-bending concept of everything looking familiar yet different begins to kick in.
It could even be said that it’s like playing a new game, which may well be the closest thing to a third installment that fans will get to experience. While there have beenrumors of aHalf-LifeRTS calledCitadeldoing the rounds, what most would probably prefer to see is a continuation of Gordon Freeman’s story, which ended on a cliffhanger at the end of 2007’s “Episode Two” DLC.
On top of this, some recently leakedimages showed an early version ofHalf-Life 2’s gravity gun, which is probably one of the most famous and unique weapons in the FPS genre. While mods are in plentiful supply, keeping the game fresh and interesting, a lot of fans still pine for the loss of a threequel, and all signs suggest Valve will not be picking up where the story left off.
Half-Life 2released in 2004 and is available on Mobile, PC, PS3, Xbox, Xbox 360.
