Luke Cageshowrunner Cheo Hodari Coker discussed the impact of his Marvel series as well as the potential repercussions of the series going toDisney Plus. For those who don’t know, the Netflix series' were removed from the streaming platform on March 1st.

Luke Cageand other canceled Marvel shows from Netflix will be moved toDisney Plus, but the showrunner ofLuke Cageexpressed concerns about the future of the show before the announcement of parental controls was made. Marvel is bringing everything to one place, but this means that it may come at the cost of censorship because the Netflix shows likeDaredevilhave a lot more dark contentthan the typical Marvel project.

In a well-worded and thought out discussion, Coker discussed the different creative and cultural decisions made in his series. Everything was intentional, from the words used to the specific songs in the background and even the locations used. Coker is putting this out there, just in caseLuke Cagegets a censored versionfor the Disney Plus platform.

Coker said in his tweets, “Rewatching Luke Cage while I can on Netflix. They’re going to do what they do. It’s theirs. I just hope they don’t sit on it for years to allow for an easier reboot, or re-air it with a different mix, or the N-Word muted. I’d love to do commentary tracks, or the original credits.” Having content changed or taken out of their control is a creative talent’s worst nightmare, so it’s easy to see where Coker is coming from. Fans have wantedLuke Cage and Jessica Jonesto officially join the MCU, but with the same edge and ability to explore serious topics.

Many rallied behind Zack Snyder to help him bring his vision ofJustice Leagueto the world, so it would be great to see fans argue in favor of seeingLuke Cagecome to Disney Plus the exact way it aired on Netflix. Some are saying thatMoon Knightits darkest project yet, and it would appear that Marvel Studios is trying to shed that “clean” or “childlike” image that many like to attach to it. If this is the case, then this is the chance for Disney to put actions behind their words.

Right now the future of Marvel is becoming more clear. Many are anticipating the numerous series coming to the Disney Plus streaming platform as well as theDoctor Strangesequel, which is set to have big consequences for the multiverse. Daredevil and Kingpin were brought back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s storyline, so the door is left open for the other Netflix heroes to join.
