Summary
Just likeLEGO FortniteandMinecrafthave their share of differences, the two titles also have some similarities. Both games see players gathering resources through exploration and fighting mobs in order to build the stuff of their dreams, such as aDeath Star inLEGO Fortnite. Players can search caves for valuable items, visit multiple biomes, and boost their health with clothing or charms. Swords and bows are also the main method of offense in the two games, with shields used as a defensive tool. However, not all shared traits are good, as the two games both have the same minor inconvenience when it comes to discarding items.
To be fair to the newer title,LEGO Fortnite’s new updatemade the game’s item disposal situation much better, as players can now discard the items they do not want by dropping them into the campfire within their villages. Prior to this update, players had to either store useless items in chests or run off and find somewhere to drop the items they do not want, leading to unsightly loot piles if they did not think to drop them in a bush. However, while it is better to have some method of dumping unwanted gear, much likeMinecraftit is more tedious than it needs to be.
LEGO Fortnite and Minecraft Could Both Use an Easier Way to Discard Items
The Downsides of Item Discarding in Minecraft and LEGO Fortnite
WhileLEGO Fortniteat least pushes for campfireswithin its villages, meaning that players are guaranteed to have a place to dump their unwanted items,Minecraftis a bit different. Like inLEGO Fortnite, players can burn unwanted items to destroy them, using lava instead of traditional flames. However, they will have to build their own disposal system, usually taking the form of a fire pit with a trap door used to hide the unsightly item dump. Frustratingly, this can hurt the aesthetic of the room, and it limits creativity since players will usually want this item dump by their storage - meaning storage rooms are often forced to be on ground level so that players can quickly dispose of their gear.
Minecraft’s lack of simple item discarding is arguably more frustrating, asLEGO Fortniteis a new gameand has already taken a first step to address this issue. For years now,Minecraftfans have asked for an item delete button so that they don’t have to drop piles of ugly blocks near their fancy builds.
Aside fromMinecraft’s unsightly item destruction pits, both games have the downside of item destruction being too slow. While full stacks of the sameitem can be dropped inMinecraft, players still need to drop these stacks into fire one by one, which takes far longer than it should.LEGO Fortniteis the exact same way, as players have to slowly go through their inventory while standing over some fire to again drop items one at a time. Frustratingly, sometimes the items will not fall where players want them and could miss the flame, especially if lava pits inMInecrafthave an opening that is too small. While this issue is hardly going to ruin anyone’s experience, it is a waste of time that could easily be avoided with a quality of life addition.
A Discard Button For Minecraft and LEGO Fortnite Would Be a Great QoL Change
The fix for this problem is simple, and has already been seen ingames likeResident Evil. In bothLEGO FortniteandMinecraft, players should be able to click and delete multiple items directly from their inventory. Alongside a select all button, players should be able to tag as many inventory items as they want for destruction, pressing just one more button after that to permanently discard unwanted gear. This approach could extend to chests as well, as players would be able to quickly select and destroy all the gear within them, just like with their inventory. Instead of slowly dropping items into a fire, both games can speed up what should really be a simple process.
