TheBioShockgames have been notable for their unique settings, like the underwater city of Rapture and the floating city of Columbia. The setting in any givenBioShockgame is hugely important, which is why there has been a lot of speculation about where the next game in the series will be set. Details onBioShock 4’s setting have not been confirmed at the time of this writing, but aLast of Us 2actor has weighed in with her opinion on where it could possibly set.
Shannon Woodward, who played Dina inThe Last of Us 2and has acted on television in shows likeWestworldandRaising Hoperecently appeared on the Good Game Nice Try podcast. The discussion drifted towardBioShocksettings, where Woodward put forth the idea ofBioShock 4being set in space. “Space would be dope though,” she said. “I love space in video games.” Since the originalBioShockwas set underwater andBioShock Infinitewas set in the sky, a space setting forBioShock 4does seem like the next logical step forward.

As it stands, very little is known about the nextBioShockgame, beyond that it is in development.Publisher Take-Two has established the studio Cloud Chamberfor the express purpose of creating a newBioShockgame, and that announcement was made in late 2019. All threeBioShockgames have earned widespread critical acclaim, with particular praise given to the originalBioShockandBioShock Infinite. Considering this, there is a lot thatBioShock 4, or whatever it ends up being called, has to live up to. BioShockcreator Ken Levine will not be involved in the development of the newBioShock, however.Levine is working with Ghost Story Gameson an unannounced project, which has been kept completely secret. However, there have been some rumblings that Levine’s next game will finally be revealed this year.
It’s been eight years since the lastBioShockgame hit store shelves, and so fans of the franchise have been waiting a long time for a new game in the series. Whether or not either one of them is set in space is not clear at the time of this writing, however.
