Jagged Alliance 3is a tactical strategy game with turn-based combat which sees players take command of a mercenary group as they seek to liberate the fictional West African nation of Grand Chien from the grip of a tyrannical warlord. In addition to managing the control of territories and resources, players will also have to micromanage thecolorful cast of mercenariesin combat. The game features several different layers of management, all of which will need to be attended to in order to have a successful playthrough.

As well as combat and reconnaissance, players will also have to take care to manage the inventories and attitudes of their employed mercenaries. Gear such as weapons and armor can deteriorate over time, leading to costly consequences such as gun jams in the field. Fortunately, there are several ways to remedy and negate these issues, provided thatcharacters are of a high enough Mechanic skill.
Jams
Nothing is more frustrating than lining up the perfect headshot on an unsuspecting target, only for the gun to jam and the opportunity to be missed. Similarly, when characters are in critical danger and need to defend themselves, the last thing they need is for theirweapons to malfunction at the crucial moment. However, this can occur when a weapon is in poor condition, or if the character’s Marksman skill is not sufficient.
While this will cost that character their turn, players can ensure this inconvenience is reduced to a single turn by unjamming the weapon immediately. In the event of a jam, a cog icon will appear in the lower center of the screen, enabling players to unjam the weapon and use it again on the next turn. Similarly, reloading will require players to do so manually, but they will still be able to use the weapon in the same turn with reduced AP. There are also several mounted weapons throughout the game world which can be repaired by Mechanics and put to use by the team once they are fixed and fully operational.
Repairs/Maintenance
to reduce the risk of gun jams, players must keep an eye on theCondition of their equipment, which is displayed by a percentage numberwhen viewed in the inventory. This condition will deteriorate over time as weapons are used and carried around.
Weapons and gear can be maintained via the Operations tab in the main Satellite View. This will require one mercenary of a high Mechanic skill to spend several days restoring equipment to its optimal condition. While this is not necessary for every single weapon, players will want to ensure that at the very least their best and equipped gear and maintained to avoid any issues during combat. Players can either select individual items they want to attend to, which can reduce the overall time spent on this activity, or they can choose to Auto-Fill the repair slots, which will automatically assign the gear which is in most need of repairing to the repair slots.
