The dark fantasy gameElden Ringis shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated titles of the next year. Fans of From Software’s gaming catalog appear to have seen a lot to look forward to inElden Ring’s trailers, leaks, and other promotional materials. Recently, one fan claims to have stumbled information suggesting thatElden Ringwill feature 42 achievements–at least, on one platform.

The classic action-RPGDark Souls, one ofElden Ring’s most famous predecessors, featured a total of 41 achievements. A particularly determinedDark Soulsspeedrunner could earn all achievements in under 4 hours, though it likely took a few years for fans to learn the game well enough to pull off a feat like that.Elden Ringfans are unlikely to be setting similar records until a while after launch.

According to Twitter account EldenRingUpdate, which provides dailyElden Ringnews, curious players can find news onElden Ring’s potential achievements on Steam. Reportedly, players that setElden Ringas their favorite game on Steam and then visit their profile may spot an achievement tracker. The tracker states that the player has earned zero out of 42 achievements, implying that the current total of achievementsElden Ringhas set into Steam’s back-end is 42. If true, this would placeElden Ring’s achievements at eight more thanBloodborne’s 34 trophies.

It’s possible that this number is a placeholder meant to fill in for the actual number of achievements, which could be added to Steam closer to launch. However, other From Software titles seem to have similar numbers of achievements, withDark Souls 3having 43 achievements–just one more than the tentative number given toElden Ring. This means that a total of 42 achievements is certainly in the usual ballpark for a From Software title, although Elden Ring’s scale and ambition may suggest more opportunities for players to earn achievements.

As of writing, it appears that other fans are taking this number with a grain of salt. However, the lack of concrete information from official sources seems to have led fans to use it as a base to discuss possible achievements. Several users fell back on information from existingFrom Software titles to theorize aboutElden Ring’s achievements–specifically, how players may be able to earn them. One user noted that it’s unlikely each boss will have an achievement attached, so perhaps players could earn achievements from defeating all the bosses in a given zone.

Elden Ringreleases on July 20, 2025, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
