The following article contains minor spoilers for the Invincible comics.Invincible(based on the Image Comics series of the same name by Robert Kirkman) proved to be one of last year’s biggest surprise streaming hits, taking the internet by storm with its gripping story and high-octane action. And of course, there’s its colorful cast of heroes and villains — Omni-Man, Atom Eve, Robot, and the Mauler Twins, just to name a few — played by a star-studded cast of voice actors.

But while the first season ofInvinciblehas a sizable cast on its own, the world of the comics is even larger. There are plenty of notable characters from the source material who have yet to make an appearance in the TV series, but could very well be debuting in the next season. Here are just a few of the comic characters who mightshow up in Season 2ofInvincible.

Angstrom-Levy-Invincible

Angstrom Levy

One of the most importantInvinciblevillains who has yet to make the leap to animation is a mad scientist by the name of Angstrom Levy. Born with the power to create interdimensional portals but without the knowledge to properly traverse the multiverse, Levy enlisted the aid of the Mauler Twins to create a machine that would allow him to fully master his powers.

However, when Invincible arrived to put a stop to the villains, he caused a lab accident that disfigured Levy, transforming him into a big-brained mutant. Pinning the blame for his freakish state squarely on Invincible’s shoulders, Levy swore revenge, using his dimension-hopping powersto menace Invincible numerous times throughout the series. Angstrom Levy is such a prominent antagonist in the comics that it’d be a bigger surprise if he didn’t show up in Season 2.

Invincible-Shapesmith

Shapesmith

Viewers ofInvincibleSeason 1 may remember a brief scene near the end of Episode 4 in which one of the astronauts returning home from Mars is shown to be a shape-shifting Martian in disguise. As it happens, that scene wasn’t a one-off twist for the sake of shock value — that same earthbound Martian reappears in the comics and becomes a recurring character.

Disguising himself as the shapeshifting hero Shapesmith (anhomage to DC’s Plastic Manin both design and abilities), he eventually becomes a member of the Guardians of the Globe. Since Shapesmith’s appearance has already been foreshadowed by the animated adaptation, it’d be strange if he didn’t show up sooner or later.

Invincible-Dinosaurus

Dinosaurus

Another major recurring villain from the comics is the monstrous Dinosaurus. Despite his bestial appearance and terrifying strength, Dinosaurus actually possesses a brilliant scientific mind, similar to the Lizard ofSpider-Manfame. However, his motivations are far more similar to those of Thanos’ MCU incarnation — Dinosaurus wishes to save the Earth from humanity’s destructive influence, and believes the only way to do so isthrough a new world orderof his own creation.

Despite his ruthless methods, Dinosaurus’ desperation to fix the world is so genuine that Invincible himself was almost convinced to join his side. Dinosaurus may seem silly at first, but he’s another nuanced antagonist from a series that loves to blur the line between hero and villain.

Invincible-Lizard-League

The Lizard League

The Lizard League was mentioned back in Season 1 ofInvincible, but they have yet to make their proper animated debut. Far from the tragic villainy of Angstrom Levy, Dinosaurus, or Omni-Man, the Lizard League represents cartoonish evil at its finest. They’re an obvious parody of other reptile-themed villain organizations, like Marvel’s Serpent Society or DC’s Kobra Cult — not to mentionCobra fromG.I. Joe.The Lizard League may not be the most intimidating villains around, but what they lack in menace, they more than make up for with pure campy charm.

The Order

Here’s another villain organization that’s been foreshadowed in Season 1, but hasn’t yet been formally introduced. The Order is a powerful international crime syndicate, and one of the deadliest supervillain groups on the planet. The Order’s leader, Mister Liu, made a short cameo confronting Titan in the ending montage of the Season 1 finale: he’s the old man with the metal jaw who transforms into a dragon.

Liu employs many minor villains in the Order, including the likes of Octoboss, Slaying Mantis, and the Walking Dread — an obvious nod toRobert Kirkman’s other famous comic series. However, another member of the Order has also made a cameo in Season 1. In Episode 3, in the scene where the Mauler Twins break out of prison, we catch a brief glimpse of Dupli-Kate’s villainous brother, Multi-Paul.

Invincible-The-Order

Of course, these are just a few of the new faces who might be showing up in the next season ofInvincible. There’s plenty of other characters from the comics we might be seeing, from the Guardians of the Globe’s newest recruits to some ofOmni-Man’s fellow Viltrumites. But no matter who shows up inInvincibleSeason 2, it’s sure to be an exciting ride.
