Developer Crytek had some disappointing news for some console-based players ofHunt: Showdown, its horror-themed live service game. The news concerned further support forHunt: Showdownon the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms after the game’s next major update.
Hunt: Showdownmade waves upon its release asone of the best games made with CryEngine, Crytek’s proprietary graphics and game development suite. Hunt: Showdown Loses PS4, Xbox One Support in August, Gets Free PS5, Xbox Series Upgrades
The developer update video was headed byHuntGeneral Manager David Fifield, who sought to dispel the confusion surrounding the future ofHunt: Showdownon PS4 and Xbox One. According to Fifield, the end date of support for previous-generation consoles is now set for Jul 29, 2025. On that date,Hunt: Showdownwill be updated to use CryEngine 5.11, the latest version of the engine.Hunt: Showdownwill be one of the first games to use CryEngine 5.11, though the company may opt to use a later version in its future projects,like the planned fourthCrysisgame. After the August 15 update goes live on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S,Hunt: Showdownwill be unplayable on PS4 and Xbox One.
Fifield was quick to assure currentHunt: Showdownplayers that players on PS4 and Xbox One will retain their accounts, progress, and all their entitlements, including the base game and any DLC. This means that existing players can playHunt: Showdownon PS5 and Xbox Series X and S when they upgrade for no additional cost, while retaining their progress and theirbestHunt: Showdownbuilds. Fifield also said that Crytek is treating the August 15 update as a major relaunch of the game, with new updates to the User Interface, progression systems, and other gameplay decisions.
The announcement also mentioned that Crytek will address further concerns and preview upcoming changes over the weeks and months between now and August 15, using a planned weekly video series, and other updates through official channels. Fifield encouraged players ofHunt: Showdownto tune in as the company reveals more about what it has planned for the game and addresses their questions moving forward.
