With the total normal villager count up to 399 inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, players have a lot of possibilities when it comes to who will move onto their islands next. However, for players who prefer topick and choose exactly who they wanton their islands, they have to option of inviting characters via amiibos.
AllAnimal Crossingamiibos are compatible withAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsfor the most part, but not all characters can be invited to the campsite. For example, special villagers such as Isabelle cannot be invited to live on the island, but a poster of her can be received by scanning her amiibo in Photopia and ordering it over the Nook Stop.

The first thing required on players' islands is the campsite. This piece of infrastructure can be built after Tom Nook reveals his plan to get more villagers to move onto the islandso K.K. Slider will show up. After a day or two of the campsite being set up, a random villager will stay in. Players have no choice but to invite this animal to their island to move in. After setting up a housing plot for them, they will move in to the spot the next day.
After the new villager is moved in, players will have access to a new option at the Nook Stop: inviting villagers to the campsite via amiibo. By selecting the option at the Nook Stop and pressing an amiibo against the right joycon’s analog stick, players can inviteany villager that they have an amiibo for.
Once the villager is invited, they will instantly appear at the player’s campsite. However, this won’t mean they’ll automatically want to stay on the player’s island. They must first be convinced by the player making them various DIY project they request. If the playerdoesn’t have the recipefor the requested item, they will automatically get it from the visiting villager.
Players may have to create up to three items for the villager to be convinced to stay. They may also have to invite them more than once. If players don’t finish the request before the next day starts, the villager will leave and players will have to invite the villager once more.
At this point, players should have access to place housing plots, so for players who prefer to choose whereevery single thing on their island goes, they should have an unsold housing plot ready for the new villager before formally inviting them. New ones can be placed for 10,000 bells through the “Let’s talk infrastructure!” option at Tom Nook’s side of the desk at Residential Services.
