The Steel Ball Run Reset

After the shocking ending of Part 6, Araki had the license to change things.SteelBallRunwas the perfect opportunity for him, and he took it with both hands. For Part 7, Araki based his story in an entirely different universe, which was devoid of many things from the previous universe.Steel Ball Runintroduced the fans to numerous new things while keeping a few of the older ideas. The main idea thatSteelBallRunretained was the concept of Stands. Despite the story being set in another universe, Araki could not just give up on the idea of Stands.

Steel Ball Runconsists of several strong Stands and they grant their users incredible powers. So, Araki did not tone down the quality of Stands, instead, he made them more unique and added stronger powers, and this is evident throughoutSteel Ball Run. Araki also made several references to characters from the previous parts such as Johnny Joestar’s real name is Jonathan Joestar.Steel Ball Runalso has amember of the Zeppeli familyand of course, it wouldn’t be a JoJo part without some kind of influence from a Brando.

The Differences

There are some key differences between theSteel Ball Runand the other parts. In Part 7, there are several different ways of obtaining Stands, which can prove to be confusing at times. Some get their Stand via the Saint’s Corpse, while the others got theirs from the Devil’s Palm and finally the others awakened their Stands through sheer willpower.

Steel Ball Runintroduced a new power, known as the Spin. The Spin is a unique ability that has a lot more energy than ordinary rotations. It works on the principle of the Golden Rectangle, and once the Spin has been perfected it provides infinite rotational energy.

After mastering the Golden Spin, Johnny was able to combine the Golden Spin with his Stand’s attacks, which allowed him totake down Funny Valentine. Due to its special nature, the Spin can be put to a variety of different uses. The Spin has been used for ages for multiple purposes. It can make increase the power of an attack, make a person’s body more durable, and keep objects in place.

Steel Ball Runalso has an entirely different setting from the rest of the parts. It is set in America in 1890. It offers the readers a unique experience as the main characters have to fight against the antagonist and compete in the race at the same time. Also, by movingSteel Ball Runto Ultra Jump, Araki was able to make it more mature as he had always wanted. There is more violence and gore inSteel Ball Runthan in the previous parts, which shows that Part 7 is tailored towards a more mature audience.

What Makes It Special?

Steel Ball Runhas several qualities that make it stand out from the rest of the parts. The development of the characters is more genuine in comparison to the rest of the parts. After a certain event transpires, the characters involved in it are affected by it. The character development is not sudden and because of this reason, it doesn’t seem unrealistic.

Johnny Joestar’s developmentthroughout Part 7 is outstanding and the readers can easily see how he grew up from an individual who would panic a lot to a person who is collected and he also developed empathy towards other people. Similiar character developments can be found throughout the entire Part 7, which truly makes it special.

Above all, it is the first part that is not related to the old characters from Parts 1-6. All the characters are new and while there are references, they are not the same characters. This also means that it finally brought an end to the animosity between the Joestars and DIO. DIO’s influence on the other parts was so immense that he made the Joestars suffer despite being dead himself. A lot of credit for this alsogoes toStoneOcean, which had the perfect ending and it allowed Araki to start a new chapter in his life as a mangaka. So, all these things makeSteel Ball Runstand out from the rest of the parts.
