There’s an unending conversation regarding the positives and negatives of using either a controller or a mouse and keyboard in online shooters likeHalo Infinite. Few would argue that a mouse and keyboard combination offers tighter accuracy when using weapons likeHalo Infinite’s sniper rifle, however. At least, that’s what intuition would have players believe. One player, however, believes that they’ve discovered evidence thatHalo Infiniteintroduces “anti-aim assist” when using an un-zoomed sniper rifle with mouse and keyboard controls.

Reddit user samurai1226 shared a video early Thursday showcasing what they believe is a type of aim assist that actively pushes the player’s reticle away from opponents when firing a sniper rifle and using mouse and keyboard controls. The video shows theHalo Infiniteplayer using multiple different weapons with both controller andmouse+keyboard configurations. When they show the sniper rifle using mouse+keyboard, however, it appears that the reticle frequently adjusts itself away from the opponent’s hitbox.

To repeat, the issue only presents itself when using thesniper riflefiring from the hip. It also presents in a very interesting way. It’s not as if the reticle is adjusted away from where the player is aiming. Rather, it looks like there’s a type of friction adjusting the reticle away from the opponent’s hitbox as the player adjusts their aim. The product is the same, regardless of its complexities. Mouse+keyboard users have a harder time hitting opponents with the sniper rifle when aiming from the hip.

Halo Infiniteplayers are left questioning whether or not this analysis is genuine and accurate or not. It would be easy to fake such a video, obviously. samurai1226 could easily just be manufacturing the brokenaim assistmanually. It’s also possible samurai1226’s intent is honest, but he struggled to test the aiming in a meaningful way.

Regardless of the video’s truth or accuracy,Halo Infiniteplayersseem to be more than comfortable believing its hypothesis. Many comments describe feelings of frustration using the sniper rifle while shooting from the hip, and how it isn’t as accurate as it should be while using mouse+keyboard. These players just want it fixed and improved.

There’s also a deeper question, which is if343 Industriesset up this anti-aim assist with intent so mouse+keyboard users couldn’t use the sniper rifle to fire accurately from the hip. It would, in a way, even the playing field with controller users in crossplay. But if it’s true, it’s going to make a lot ofHalo Infiniteplayers on PC very frustrated.

Halo Infiniteis available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
