It wouldn’t be Halloween without, well,Halloween. The American slasher film franchise has been around since 1978 and it has continued its reign of terror this year with its twelfth installment,Halloween Kills.Now, director David Gordon Green has weighed in on a long-standing theory about the iconic killer Michael Myers.
Perhaps the most notable thing aboutHalloween Killswas the ending, which left fans speculating on a new theory. Is Michael Myers, the murderous villain of the series, actually an immortal? David Gordon Green, the director ofHalloween Kills, recently addressed this in an interview with IGN. While he believes Myers is capable of spectacular things, Green’s personal concept for the character is that he is not innately supernatural. Given the unmistakablemark of fear that Michael Myers has establishedover the past couple of decades, it makes sense why some people would think he has transcended mortality.

Fans have made the point that Michael Myers has survived a number of brutal attacks, from a hail of bullets to multiple stabbings, that could hint he is an indestructible force. But Green assures that he is still human, one who is simply resilient and whose thirst for murder keeps him alive. With regards toHalloween Ends, the thirteenth installment of the series, Green says it will feature a little less novelty and a little bit more specificity in the emotion of theLaurie Strode and Michael Myers connection. That should be a good way to round out that chapter of the story, with the two characters who started it all. Additionally, there are rumors that Lindsey Wallace, a character featured in John Carpenter’s original classic, will return in the last film as well.
Halloween Killsis a direct sequel to 2018’sHalloweenand it starsfranchise veteran Jamie Lee Curtisreprising her role as the tormented Laurie Strode.Killswas a huge box office hit during its opening weekend, bringing in $50.4 million in its first three days of theatrical release. Such a number is impressive considering that the film was also made available to watch on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform.
As for Green, he will continue to explore the horror genre beyondHalloweenwith an upcomingreboot trilogy forThe Exorcist.He has also signed on to spearhead a documentary film about the creation of Disneyland for Disney Plus. Needless to say, he’s going to be a busy man in the next few years.
Halloween Killsis now out in theatres, whileHalloween Endsis due for theatrical release on July 31, 2025.
