While theBatman Arkhamseries went on to become a massive success for Warner Bros and Rocksteady, the series went on a hiatus afterArkham Knightin 2015. Fans continued to speculate at what Rocksteady was developing next, though theactual reveal ofSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewouldn’t happen until five years later in 2020. In fact, WB Montreal also revealed their own Batman-related title,Gotham Knights, at the same DC Fandome event.
WhileGotham Knightshas a familiar Arkhamverse style, WB Montreal confirmed that it exists outside of that universe. In fact, the game features plenty of differences to help it stand apart from that world, including the fact that Batman isn’t actually playable. However, from a gameplay perspective,Gotham Knightsditches the Freeflow counter combat systemfound in theArkhamgames and even gives the four protagonists their own play style and abilities to utilize while in combat or traversing the city.

However, the biggest change inGotham Knightsis the move to a more Action RPG systemwhich features skill trees, crafting, gear, and an XP system which helps heroes and enemies become stronger. As with most games that use an experience system, players should know that there is a maximum level cap.
Gotham Knights Max Level
For first playthrough ofGotham Knights, players will be able to level their way up to 30. Earning XP in the game is fairly straightforward, earned through completing story missions and side objectives. Leveling up impacts all characters, giving them 1 point to use in any of thethree skill trees perGotham Knightscharacter.
However, it’s worth noting that the character level is separate from the character’s power level, one that influences stats like defense, health, and overall damage output. In order to increase those important numbers to stay up with rising enemy levels,Gotham Knightsplayers will need to obtain and craft better gearfor their heroes which include armor, weapons, and ranged items as well.
Gotham Knights New Game Plus Max Level
However, hitting level 30 isn’t the end inGotham Knights. In order for players to reach the true max level, they’ll first need to beat the campaign at least once, then start a second playthrough in New Game+. Doing so raises the level cap another 10 levels to 40 so that earning XP continues to push characters further and become even stronger.
Better yet, players don’t need to level each character individually, as gaining a level with one character will automatically raise everyone else to that same level.Switching characters inGotham Knights, gives players those unlocked skill points to use however they want. Players should keep in mind thatGotham Knightscurrently doesn’t have a way to respec skill points, so they should be used carefully as there’s no way to unlock everything.
