A modder has unlockedGod of War Ragnarok’s unfinished Photo Mode. Photo Modes are becoming an increasingly common expectation for modern game releases. It’s an excellent way to showcase a game’s graphics, and Sony’s PS5 exclusive first-party games are graphical powerhouses worth showcasing.God of War Ragnarokis no exception to that, so it’s perhaps unsurprising that the leaked Photo Mode is already producing excellent images. It’s unfortunate but true that Sony’s Santa Monica Studio was unable to finish the development of the Photo Mode in time forGod of War Ragnarok’s release. The developer has confirmed it will release the feature in time, at least. This is not abnormal in game development, for a couple of reasons. Photo Mode obviously isn’t a priority feature compared to actually finishing the game. But further, developers seem to prefer avoiding Photo Mode being used to misrepresent a game so close to launch. Either way, it’s not ready forGod of War Ragnarok.RELATED:Apparent God of War Ragnarok Shortage Hits AmazonThat didn’t stop modder Speclizer from delving intoGod of War Ragnarok’s systems and unlockingPhoto Modefor themself. The feature is, from what Speclizer’s shared, extremely functional. They’re able to freezeGod of War Ragnarokmid-gameplay or cutscene, move the camera around freely, and alter a variety of filters and variables to set up a perfect image for capture.

One of the most important aspects of Photo Mode is also shown by Speclizer, the chance to change each character’s facial expressions. They scroll through 16 different Kratos faces, including ones that are either hilarious or intimidating. There’sKratosyelling, Kratos winking, Kratos happy and sad, and many more. Players are going to have some fun with these, for sure.

While Kratos' faces all seem to be available, other characters' are not. Atreus only has a single standard face outside of the default, and Mimir doesn’t have any available. It’s clear that the Photo Mode is at least partially unfinished and isn’t just waiting forSanta Monica Studioto unlock. With that said,God of War Ragnarokplayers would absolutely be fine with what Speclizer has shown. There’s certain to be more than players can’t see, tied to optimization or other technical restrictions, though, so Santa Monica Studio will have to keep Photo Mode locked for the foreseeable future.

Of the two screenshots that Speclizer has shown, both are of very impressive quality. And the two faces used in the Photo Mode screenshots create vastly different impressions of eachGod of War Ragnarokscene. When Photo Mode does arrive inGod of War Ragnarok, a lot of fun will be had.

God of War Ragnarokis available now on PS4 and PS5.
