It was recently announced thatGod of War, the 2018 reimagining and continuation of a classic series, is coming to PC in 2022. This means the game will soon be available to fans on Steam, and there will also be anEpic Games Store release forGod of War.
With possibly the most important entry in the series coming PC, it’s a big moment for Sony and for theGod of Warfranchise. Not only will this open up the game to many players who have do not have a PlayStation, widening the potential playerbase forGod of War: Ragnarok, it will also make the game’s code widely available. That means one thing: Mods. Everyone knows mods forGod of Warare on the horizon, and there are a few types that should be interesting to see.

Additional Characters
One thing that setsGod of War(2018) apart from its previous entries is the abundance of interesting characters. There was a big cast of gods and mythical beings in the previous games, but few of them worth getting invested in. The cast of the newGod of Waris more intimate. With the transition to PC comes the opportunity to grow the cast through mods. Some players are speculating aboutwhat Odin could look like inGod of War: Ragnarok, so it’s entirely feasible for someone to try and add him earlier. Even without any voice acting, he could make for a powerful secret boss in the style ofKingdom Hearts.
The future ofGod of Wardoes not have to be the only place that people draw upon for inspiration.Santa Monica Studios asked players to share their favoriteGod of Warmomentslast week, and these moments from all across the series would be a great addition toGod of War. Old characters could return as vengeful spirits in the same way Athena makes a cameo, or old enemies could resurface. A more ambitious project might be old setpieces returning, but it would certainly be cool to see them updated inGod of War’s style. Fighting a minotaur and a troll at the same time doesn’t seem too farfetched.
All of this is sticking in universe, but mods will not limit themselves to this. There are already popular crossovers that players are predicting, ranging from the cool to the ridiculous.Untitled Goose GameandSpongeBob SquarePantsare two ideas floated by Twitter users, and withGod of Warfans already crossing it over with the annoying bird meme, this seems plausible.
All this pales in comparison to one character many players want to see return to the scene: young Kratos from the originalGod of Wartitles, back when he was still the angry god of war destroying Mount Olympus. Manyplayers want to see Kratos fight his younger self, and it’s hard to deny that it would make for a great scene - and likely a great boss fight. This is one that players should keep an eye out for whenGod of Warhits PC.
More Power for Kratos
New enemies or characters are well and good, but some of the best mods have a direct impact on gameplay. There are a lot of ways to go about bringing Kratos new abilities, even if he does not become a new character. For instance, one of thebest secrets inGod of War(2018)involves the Shattered Gauntlet of the Ages, a powerful armor piece and Easter egg referencing the Infinity Gauntlet from the MCU. A mod could make the already powerful armor into a more accurate representation by giving Kratos actual powers analogous to the Infinity Gauntlet as players retrieve its pieces.
More traditional powers could make their way into the game through mods as well. Over the course of the previous games, Kratos has had many different weapons at his disposal, which gave his combat style a greater range of control. These weapons could be modded in to give him different styles beyond the ones he uses in-game. With all thereferences to Egypt in theGod of Warfranchise, an easy case could be made for some mythical Egyptian-inspired powers as well.

Altered Perspectives and Characters
Some of the more interesting mods don’t deal with inserting new content, but instead remixing or rearranging the content that already exists. As just one example, amod turningGod of Warinto a first-person adventure already exists. Replicating that on PC sounds like a doable feat, and it would literally give players a new perspective, letting them see the world through Kratos' eyes. Another, more comedic mod was suggested via Reddit, showing Kratos scaled up to be an actual giant. It may be less useful for gameplay, but would be funny seeing Kratos stand above Tyr and Thor.
Replacing characters with other characters also seems to be a big request. Other PlayStation heroes like Nathan Drake and Clank fromRatchet & Clankreplacing Kratos and Atreus is one idea, or having Lady Dimitrescu replace Tyr could be another given their statures. Thanks to the popularity of the Thomas the Tank Engine dragon mod fromSkyrim, that one is pretty likely to reappearwhenGod of Wargets ported to PC. Hopefully even more outlandish mods come to pass, as few tributes to a game are more sincere than turning that game into something ridiculous.
