A driving force inGod of War’s stellar narrative who never appears physically is Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother, Laufey. The giantess triggered the series of events that led to the progression ofGod of War’s events, with the vast majority of information surrounding this character being in the shadows for quite some time. Here are some unique things about Laufey that most fans ofGod of Wardon’t know about.
8Her Full Name Was Hidden So Players Wouldn’t Make The Connection Between Her And Loki
Most people know Atreus' mom by the name Faye since that’s how she was called throughout the game. It’s only near the end of the game that players know about the true nature of her name and Atreus' as well.
This was a conscious decision by the developers since it’s well-documented that Laufey is actually the mother of Loki. Revealing Faye’s full name beforehand would’ve led inquisitive or knowledgeable players to deduce the same.
7Her Skills As A Warrior Attracted The Attention Of Thor Himself
Laufey was a powerful warrior, whose skills and feats were famous across the Norse realms. It’s a shame that players never managed to witness the true extent of her power firsthand.

In fact, Laufey was such a powerful warrior thatThor himself wanted to challenge the giantess to a duel. Unfortunately, before this battle could occur, Laufey passed away.
6Brok And Sindri Adored Laufey
The Huldra brothers are two of the most entertaining characters in the entire game. Their presence throughoutGod of Warallowed players to upgrade their equipment and have the means required to tackle even greater challenges.
Both the brothers might have their fair share of differences that are pretty evident throughout the game, but there was one thing they could agree on — they were extremely fond of Laufey. Both the brothers were deeply saddened to learn about her untimely demise.
5She Was An Extremely Kind Individual Who Went Out Of Her Way To Help People In Need
One of the major reasons why Brok and Sindri adored Laufey was because of her extremely kind nature. While Kratos generally liked to leave things alone, Laufey simply had to step into the picture and help out any person in need, even if it affected her well-being.
It was this kindness that Atreus inherited, which is why Kratos was very hesitant when it came to being a father to Atreus. He didn’t want any of his brutality to rub off on his son, which did end up happening to a lesser degree during a rather weak moment in the game.
Laufey had the ability of foresight, allowing her to see certain events in the future well before they happened. This is the major reason why she was able to predict her demise, preparing both Kratos and Atreusto take care of her ashes in her wake.
This precognition was a powerful ability, but Laufey passed away before the full extent of her abilities could be witnessed by players on their own. Perhaps it’s a possibility thatGod of War Ragnarokwill delve into the history of Faye and her abilities even more.
3The Leviathan Axe Was Laufey’s Weapon Of Choice
The Leviathan Axe isone of the best additions to the weaponry present inGod of War. It was a great way to reimagine theGod of Warwith a weapon that was frostier than what most people were used to.

This weapon was actually used by Laufey before her demise. She passed it on to Kratos, who decided to use this iconic weapon as a sign of respect for his late wife.
2Norse Mythology Has Laufey By A Different Name & Is Retconned In God Of War
There arecertain facets of Norse mythologythat elaborate upon Laufey’s origins and existence quite a bit. This includes the mention of another name that Laufey was referred to as — Nal.
InGod of War’s interpretation of Norse mythology, Nal is a completely different person who was the wife of Bergelmir. Aside from an earth-splitting revelation, it’s safe to say that this alternate name for Laufey has been discarded inGod of War’s canon.
Cory Balrog, the game director and story writer ofGod of War, is the son of a popular fantasy novelist. This man goes by the name of J.M. Balrog, who has published a book accompanyingGod of War’s rich world and lore.
In this book, it’s mentioned that Laufey had a pet that wasn’t mentioned in the game. This pet was a gryfalcon by the name of Jophie and was fiercely loyal to its owner. Even Atreus couldn’t win over Jophie’s loyalty in the same way that Laufey had.
