Gorou is designed to be a support for defensive Geo characters inGenshin Impact. He can grant a large DEF, Geo DMG, and Geo Crit DMG buff to his teammates. Luckily, many Geo units can benefit from this effect. For example, Gorou is easily thebest support character for Arataki Itto. Other than that, the Canine Warrior will grant a great boost if paired with Albedo or Noelle.

When Gorou uses his Elemental Skill, he’ll create an AOE field that grants DEF and Geo DMG bonus. This buff will scale withthe number of Geo characters that exist in the party. Meanwhile, when he casts his Elemental Burst,his buff will follow the active character, so players don’t have to worry about staying in his AOE. The buff granted by his Burst will follow the multiplier on his Skill, sohis Skill has a higher priority to upgrade.
Are Gorou’s Constellations Worth It?
While Gorou’s Elemental Skill has a higher priority than his ultimate, Travelers will still want to use his Elemental Burst as much as possible. It will deal periodical AOE damage, and at C6, it can grant a massive buff to his teammates.
Note:The Constellation effects are taken directly fromGenshin Impact, just slightly reworded in places. C3 and C5 are not included as they only upgrade Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst talent by three levels each.
C1 - Rushing Hound: Swift As The Wind
This effect could be great, but unfortunately,Gorou already has a 100% uptimeon his Elemental Skill. It has a 10s duration and 10s cooldown, so this effect is practically not needed.
C2 - Sitting Hound: Steady as a Clock
Gorou’s secondGenshin ImpactConstellationcan extend his Elemental Burst duration from 9s to 12s. This is a decent addition as his Burst has better effects than his Elemental Skill. If Travelers pair Gorou with Itto, the former can buff the latter for the entirety of his Elemental Burst duration (Itto’s Burst last for 11s)
C4 - Lapping Hound: Warm as Water
Many wereexcited to see that Gorou can be a healerwith his C4. Unfortunately, after many theorycrafters tinker with the numbers, they all agree that his healing is way too low to be accounted for. Even when he’s built to be a dedicated healer (with DEF/DEF/Healing Bonus artifact), his team recovery is still insignificant. Therefore,players should not build Gorou as a healer. It’s simply not worth it.
C6 - Valiant Hound: Mountainous Fealty
Sadly, while his Constellations are mostly insignificant,Gorou’s best feature lies in his final Constellation. So at the end of the day, players would want to collect seven Gorou in their playtime. With his C6, Gorou will boost the Critical DMG of Geo DMG. The level will scale with the number of Geo characters in the party.
C6 Gorou will be insanely good whenpaired withGenshin Impact’s Arataki Itto. If there’s another Geo unit in the team, the three of them will enjoy a massive Geo DMG addition from Gorou.
