Before Inazuma dropped inGenshin Impact, the fanbase was much abuzz with speculations and theories. Now that Inazuma has dropped, one would think that all the discussions about the place would have ceased. However, fabledGenshin Impactarchipelago has raised even more questions. It’s more mysterious and mystical than Liyue and more rustic and recondite than Mondstadt.

Hence, players just can’t help but wonder just how Inazuma came to be. The land of lightning, overcast weather, and nine-foot-tall samurai does incite inspiring wonder. Needless to say, Inazuma has a rich history that’s begging to be discovered. For anyone wanting to dig deeper and need a more profound context as to why their characters seem to be made of lightning rods in Inazuma, here are some interesting facts about Teyvat’s latest unveiled nation.
10It Was Initially A Huge Kingdom Built On Sand
Probably thousands of years beforethe Archon Wareven began, the Kingdom of Inazuma was once an ambitious project. An arrogant king wanted to build his own domain on top of sand.He succeeded, for a time and Inazuma became alegendary garden kingdom that honored the white sakura tree.
Eventually, the kingdom got floodedbecause the whole thing was built on sand. The waters consumed the king’s domain until theonly things left standing wereseveral island chainsthat used to be mountainous regions. Those islands reluctantly became the main settlements of Inazuma.
9Raccoons & Foxes Waged War Against Each Other In Inazuma
One odd phase in Inazuma’s history was when raccoon people ortanukiwent to warwith kitsune or fox people. Thetanukiwere the native inhabitants of Inazuma. Once, they were mere animals but gradually became more and more sentient. The same went for thekitsune, who were originally from the Teyvat mainland.

Thekitsune, however, migrated to Inazuma from the mainland of Teyvat and evenattempted to colonize the islands of Inazuma. Thetanukirightfully resisted and the two factions waged a long war beforefinally negotiating peaceafter ceding the sacred sakura tree to thekitsune.
8Inazuma Wasn’t United In The Past
Due to its archipelagic structure, Inazuma had a hard time staying united. After the Archon War, abanished giant serpent god came back to Inazuma and raised its own island, complete with its own followers. The island was recognized as part of Inazuma.
The only problem at that time was that Inazuma already had an established Electro Archon. That pretty much divided the attention of Inazuma’s citizens, seeing as their options for worship increased. Hence, rebellions and resistance factions are a common sight in Inazuma.
7It No Longer Has Its Original Electro Archon
Speaking of the Electro Archon, the original one was speculated to be namedNarukami Ogosho. Her Archon name was still Baal, of course. She was supposedly the original participant of the Archon War– the one who unified Inazuma for a time and gained Celestia’s favor to be declared as the god of the archipelago as well as theElectro Archon.

Whoever that person is,it’s not Raiden Shogun– the one who’s present in the game’s current timeline. Raiden Shogun was a mere “successor” of the previous Electro Archon who might have been the figure in the Statues of the Seven in Inazuma.
6The Giant Serpent Is Named Watatsumi Omikami Or Orobashi
Now, on to Inazuma’s “other god,” the giant serpent. Its name was Watatsumi Omikami or Orobashi for something simpler. During the Archon war, the originalBaal/Electro Archon banished Orobashi to the Dark Sea(any location beyond Teyvat). As mentioned earlier though, Orobashi came back and re-established his own foothold in Inazuma.
Orobashi is thus, a powerful being. Its skull can even be seen ominously resting in the third island chain of Inazuma. The sheer size of the skeleton alone is enough indicator of how omnipotent this giant serpent god is as it’s quite similar in size to Liyue monsters such as Osial.
5The Sangonomiya Resistance Worshipped Orobashi
Despite Orobashi’s menacing and frightening appearance as a giant serpent god, its followers believe in it out of their free will. Some of them include the present timeline members of the Sangonomiya Resistance or the rebellion, led by Kokomi.

It makes sense as they want their people, notably theirVision userssafe from Baal’s prying hands and oppressive gaze. Even as Orobashi is nowhere to be found in Inazuma, their faith in the serpent remains strong as it has grown to symbolize Sangonomiya’s rejection of Baal.
4The Giant Serpent Was Killed By The Electro Archon
While on the topic of Orobashi’s absence, it seems to be permanent now. The giant serpent god was slain in combat long before the Sangonomiya rebellion and long afterthe Archon War. Ever since Orobashi re-established his own islands in Inazuma, the serpent god actually forged an uneasy coexistence with Baal (who may or may not be Raiden Shogun at that point).
This truce was disrupted whenOrobashi suddenly attacked, presumably without provocation based on Inazuma’s history. The current Baal at that time didn’t have a choice and had to put down the giant serpent god where he has no chance to come back.
3The Rain & Thunderstorms Are Most Likely Caused By Orobashi’s Death
Even as Orobashi died, itsgrip and powers in Inazuma remained activelong after its death. There’s the fact that his bones are still intact albeit with some misplaced parts thanks to the sea. That isn’t to say his death didn’t affect the island.

It pretty much depopulated the whole third island chain of Inazuma. Now, only possessed and mad ronin roam that land. On top of that, the third island chain is battered with a constant torrent ofrain and thunderstorms thanks to Orobashi’s influence. Eventually, those storms might wash away all that remained of Orobashi and his island.
2It Is Unknown Why Baal Enacted The Sakoku Decree
Several hundreds of years after Orobashi was killed in Inazuma– and near the current timeline ofGenshin Impact, Raiden Shogun (the new Baal) enacted the Sakoku Decree whichclosed Inazuma from Teyvat and allowed her to confiscate any Vision in her country.
Additionally, she alsostopped giving away new Electro Visions. Even as Inazuma was revealed, it’s still unknown as to why Raiden Shogun is doing this, especially and relatively soon after she succeeded the previous Electro Archon. In any case, it wasn’t a well-received set of changes, which led to a pushback from the Sangonomiya Resistance.
1Xingqiu Is A Celebrity In Inazuma
On a lighter note, the people of Inazuma are a literate population. They love books and novels; one of their most favorite is the “A Legend of Sword.” It was a book from Liyue, which is why thereaders from Inazuma didn’t know the author. In spite of that, they still held whoever it is in high regard and considered that person a star.
Turns out that person’s a he and is also a playable character:Xingqiu. He’s the one who wrote that book (according to one of his stories). Too bad Xingqiu likely doesn’t know this since Inazuma is closed to Liyue. Even if he did, he won’t be able to grace his fans with a visit– not without the risk of losing his Vision to Baal.
