“The eighth episode is, I think, probably an hour and a half,” Matarazzo said of the final two episodes of season four during his appearance onThe Tonight Showwith host Jimmy Fallon. “But episode nine is getting close to two and a half hours. It’s a movie. It’s nine movies, practically. All of them are close to an hour and a half — all of them over an hour.” With season four having by far the longest episodes of the entire series, many fans weren’t surprised by the news that the finale would be over two hours long. The season seemingly still has a lot left to wrap up, and with just two episodes left to do it, fans of the hit series are willing to sit down and watch for as long as possible to get answers. “I’ve never been this nervous for a season finale,” one fan tweeted in response totheStranger Thingsaccount.
During the interview, Fallon praised the final two episodes, telling Matarazzo, “it’s all starting to pay off, and everything works, and it’s really cool.” Matarazzo agreed, sharing, “you learn a lot.” While Matarazzo did not share what fans will specifically learn from the final episodes, many fans have begun concluding that more details aboutEleven and Vecna’s relationshipand powers will be revealed when they inevitably face off during the season four finale.
Following the chapter seven reveal that Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) was the one who sent One/Henry Creel (Jamie Campbell Bower) to the Upside Down (which inadvertently created Vecna), it appears as though the finale will reveal more about them as a hero/villain dynamic, as well as how Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine) fits into their current storylines. Outside their fight, fans theorize that some beloved characters will suffer a tragic death, whether it be due to Vecna or saving Hawkins from being swallowed by the Upside Down.
Whether a character’s death will help fans learn more about them or the series at large still remains a mystery, which has caused some fans to panic about their favorite character’s fate. While a majority of the plot remains unknown, it is certain that fans ofStranger Thingsare anxiously waiting for Netflix to release the final two episodes.
Stranger Things 4volume 2 will be released on July 11, 2025.
