Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Updated on January 7th, 2025, by Ritwik Mitra:Harry Potter is a legendary series that needs no introduction. The adventures of the eponymous wizard and his best friends as they try to stop Voldemort from conquering the wizarding world is something that everyone is familiar with, and fans never get tired of reading the books or watching the movies over and over again to re-experience this nostalgic tale or pick up on details they’ve missed out on. The series didn’t shy away from its fair share of humor, with some of thebest Harry Potter quotesbeing so iconic that they will elicit a chuckle no matter how many times fans hear these lines.

24"Now If You Two Don’t Mind, I’m Going To Bed Before Either Of You Come Up With Another Clever Idea To Get Us Killed - Or Worse, Expelled."

Hermione Granger

Hermione can be studious to a fault, and this character trait rears its ugly (and quite hilarious) head during the first movie. After the trio has gotten into trouble once already, she tells them off in the middle of the night and decides to stay out of any trouble from then on.

However, the way she conveys her feelings is so iconic that it has become one of thefunniestHarry Potterquotesof all time. What seals its comedy is Ron’s response when she goes back to her dorm, wondering why her priorities were so out of whack.

23"What Happened Down In The Dungeon Between You And Professor Quirrell Is A Complete Secret. So, Naturally, The Whole School Knows."

Albus Dumbledore

Hogwarts is a school where the rumor mill can’t be stopped no matter how hard people try. So, even though the trio wanted to keep their adventures a secret when they went to acquire the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry awoke to the news that everyone in the school knew what they had been up to.

What makes thisfunnyHarry Potterquoteespecially hilarious stems from the person who delivers the line. Dumbledore’s aura can be quite overpowering, which is why it’s nice to hear him channel his light-hearted side from time to time. It’s especially funny to hear the legendary wizard admit to his own inability to halt the spread of rumors — even if they’re true.

The-Battle-of-the-Seven-Potters

22"Wow, We’re Identical!"

Fred & George Weasley

The Battle of the Seven Potters is one of the mosticonic action set-pieces inHarry Potterand kickstartsThe Deathly Hallowsin style. To fool Voldemort and the Death Eaters, the Order of the Phoenix decides to use Polyjuice Potion to make everyone look like Harry and befuddle their pursuers long enough for them to reach the safety of The Burrow.

As always, Fred and George end up bringing some much-needed levity here after the transformation. They drink the potion and comment on how they now look alike; which, of course, they always do, being a pair of identical twins. This makes for a simple yet effective joke that lightens the oppressive mood right before the group risks their lives to help Harry.

The Dursleys in Harry Potter

21"Well, It Changes Every Day, You See."

Harry Potter

There’s no denying that the Dursleys are some of the most heinous characters in the history ofHarry Potter. While some people may argue that Dudley still exhibits a bit of character development that culminates in him finally acknowledging Harry, Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia consistently act terribly towards The Boy Who Lived. DuringOrder of the Phoenix, they show their penchant for being irritated at every single thing that Harry did, such as when he turned on the TV to watch the news.

After being questioned as to why he was watching the news every single day, Harry had an absolute zinger ready for them. The Dursleys weren’t an intelligent bunch, making thisfunnyHarry Potterquoteperfect for them. It’s a shame that Harry had to endure their atrocities for so long, but fans can rest assured knowing that their favorite wizard enjoyed the happy ending he deserved by the end of the series.

Snape punishing Ron and Harry in Harry Potter

20"We’re Not Going To Be Asking, ‘Excuse Me, Are You The Imprint Of A Departed Soul?'"

Ron Weasley

Ron is one of the best characters inHarry Potter, serving as a lovable source of comic relief while also getting his time to shine by showing off just how brave he can be in the face of danger. He’s also a loyal friend who doesn’t shy away from defending those he cares for, with a great example of the same being when he tried to punish Draco for calling Hermione a Mudblood inThe Chamber of Secrets.

Another moment, albeit less heroic than this one, comes inHalf-Blood Prince, whenSnape attempts to deride Harrywhen the Chosen One states that the difference between a ghost and an Infernus is that the former is transparent. Ron speaks up in Harry’s defense with afunnyHarry Potterquote, stating that all the theories in the world will be useless when face-to-face against an actual dark spirit. In such a case, it would be better to see whether one can see through them or not before choosing the appropriate spell to deal with them.

Rita Skeeter in Harry Potter

19"Yeah, You Can Have A Word. Goodbye."

Journalists who cross the line in search of a good scoop time and time again are disliked by the masses, with Rita Skeeter being a great example of the same. Her coverage of the Triwizard Tournament was marred with biased reporting and misleading headlines, causing Harry no end of trouble when he was misquoted by the sly reporter.

He was well aware of her journalistic tricks by the time the first trial started, using his superb broom-riding skills to avoid the Hungarian Horntail and acquire the Golden Egg. When Rita attempted to get a word from him, Harry channeled his snarky side and delivered one of thefunniestHarry Potterquotesto put this opportunistic reporter in her place

Ron and Lavender in Harry Potter

18"Can I Have A Look At Uranus Too, Lavender?"

Ron has a habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time over and over again, which is to be expected from a character who’s meant to serve as comic relief. Even something as weird and boring as Divination Class becomes exciting when Harry’s best friend partakes in some shenanigans, even if his comic timing at this moment was unintentional.

When Lavender is holding a map with all the relevant constellations and celestial bodies, Ron makes the tragic mistake of saying a line that sounds dirtier than it is. Trelawney decides to heap a lot of homework on the hapless student after class when she overhears this statement and assumes the worst. The funniest part about this whole scenario is that Ron and Lavender ended up dating in rather weird circumstances during the events ofThe Half-Blood Prince.

The Weasley Twins in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

17"You Haven’t Got A Letter On Yours… I Suppose She Thinks You Don’t Forget Your Name. But We’re Not Stupid – We Know We’re Called Gred And Forge."

George Weasley

Fred and George are two of thefunniest characters inHarry Potter. The chemistry they share with each other is palpable in both the books and movies, with some of the banter they dole out is legendary. One such instance comes when their mother gives them Christmas jumpers as a way to differentiate between them since she finds it hard to distinguish between the two.

After seeing that Harry’s jumper has no initials, Fred and George joke about switching jumpers in a way only they can. This line is witty and something that fans will likely expect the two to say.

Dobby in Harry Potter

16"Dobby Never Meant To Kill! Dobby Only Meant To Maim Or Seriously Injure."

Dobby

Dobby is one of the most beloved characters inHarry Potter. He’s introduced inChamber of Secretsand gives off a rather poor impression early on when he prevents Harry Potter fromgoing to Hogwartsby any means necessary, venturing into the realm of the extreme. While he’s looking out for Harry in a weird way, it still doesn’t help his character all that much. Thankfully, after being freed from Lucius Malfoy’s clutches, Dobby becomes a friendly and helpful house elf for Harry and Co.

This is what makes his fate inThe Deathly Hallowsso hard to swallow, especially after he saves Harry and his friends from the Death Eaters. After almost dropping a chandelier on Bellatrix’s head, the witch screams that he could’ve killed her. Dobby’s retort to this is hilarious and shows why people love this house-elf, despite his antics during Harry’s second year.

professor mcgonagall in harry potter

15"I’ve Always Wanted To Use That Spell!"

Minerva McGonagall

Most people would think that Professor McGonagall is a strict teacher who abides by the rules and doesn’t take kindly to any immature antics. While this is true for the most part, there are times when this character lets herself loose and enjoys a moment of happiness. The Battle of Hogwarts is a time when all the gloom and doom can be a bit overbearing, so it’s nice to see McGonagall ease the tension.

Afterusing the Animation Charmto compel the suits of armor of the castle to come alive and protect Hogwarts, McGonagall keeps an aura of professionalism for the longest time. However, even she had to acknowledge just how cool this spell was, expressing her elation at finally casting it in a giddy manner that makes for one of the best jokes in the final movie.
