PlayStationfans can usually expect to see a few things on most Trophy lists. If a game features collectibles, achievements for gathering some or all of them will be included, and the same can be said for titles with multiple endings. Story-relatedPlayStationTrophies will pop just for progressing through and beating the game, while completing optional content and finding Easter eggs can also lead to Trophies. Achievements for engaging with certain gameplay mechanics also feature regularly. Regardless of the type of task, at least some of these Trophies are likely to have entertaining names.

Though not every task tied to a silly Trophy name will be particularly funny, players can find plenty of puns and references that make light of serious moments - with theFull Gufa Trophy fromGod of War Ragnarokbeing an example of this trend. As such, even serious titles likeThe Callisto Protocolcan have numerous funny achievements scattered throughout their lists, and the same can be said for one of the essential PlayStation Plus offerings from last month.

Funniest Trophies from December 2022’s Essential PS Plus Games

ThoughDivine Knockout’s Trophy List is similarly serious,Biomutant, the finalessential PS Plus game from December, has a comedic Trophy to earn. There are plenty of fittingly named Trophies like “Twinkle Twinkle” for finding a Twinkle Crashsite and “Quack” for capturing Gumducks, but “Gumshow” is the star of the lineup. Players get this Trophy for pulling all the teeth out of the Hoof Puff’s mouth, and the name is a nod to the creature’s appearance once this is done. Since players can beat the boss without removing all its teeth, this Trophy is missable, so players need to go out of their way to ruin the creature’s appearance.

Funniest Trophies from December 2022’s New Releases

Fortunately for fans of comedic Trophies, though the PS Plus games were lacking in this area, the new releases managed to deliver in a big way.Need for Speed Unbound’s only real standout is “Catch my Drift” for completing all Drift Zone activities with 3 stars, but two other games offer a few entertaining achievements. Marvel fans will find a lot to appreciate in the Trophy list forMarvel’s Midnight Suns, while horror fans will see a few fun Trophy names appearing during theirplaythroughs ofThe Callisto Protocol.

Starting with the Trophies forMarvel’s Midnight Suns, fans can find some fun references to outside media like the filmStep Brotherswith the Trophy “Did We Just Become Best Friends?,” which is acquired by maxing out a hero’s friendship. “Elemental, My Dear Agatha” is a fun nod toSherlock Holmesas well. However, it is the Marvel-specific homage that steals the show. “With a Box of Scraps” unlocks by crafting a hero ability card in the Forge, and those that saw the originalIron Manwill surely remember theheavily-memed MCU scenebeing referenced here.

Trophy hunters working onThe Callisto Protocol’s listcould smile when unlocking a couple of the achievements. Aside from the Muhammad Ali reference “Float Like a Butterfly,” which is unlocked through perfect dodges, players can get “Workplace Hazard” for an environmental kill. “Get a Grip” which is earned through GRP kills is fun, too. A classic saying is referenced with “Without a Paddle,” which pops after players survive a slide through a sewer, and “If The SHU fits” is a great pun that plays with the name of an important device. Best of all is “In Striking Distance” which is unlocked by pulling off a GRP and melee combo. Though it is a fitting Trophy name on its own, those who recognize that it is also the name of the game’s developer - and that thePlayStationTrophy itself displays the studio’s logo - could end up chuckling at the little homage.
