Fortnite’s Impostors game mode has received a lot of backlash for its blatant similarities toAmong Us. Finally though,Fortnitehas creditedAmong Usfor the mode, and hinted at potentially collaborating with the popular game.

For all intents and purposes,Fortnite’s Impostors game mode was essentially a 3D version ofAmong Us. Players run around completing objectives whilst an Impostor starts killing players, leaving those who survive to call meetings to determine who the Impostor is and expel them from the game.Among UsdeveloperInnersloth was not happy with Epic Games, more so frustrated by how close the Impostors mode’s themes and terminology was to its game than the usage of similar game mechanics. In the perspective of Innersloth, despite the success ofAmong Us, Epic Games andFortniteare still much larger entities, so it left the indie studio feeling pretty powerless to change anything.

In the latestFortniteupdate, Epic Games finally gives credit to Innersloth andAmong Usfor the Impostors game mode. The tweet announcing the latest update directly mentionsAmong Us, withFortnitewriting, “Impostors mode, inspired by the hit @AmongUsGame.” This update brings new features to the Impostors mode including role bias, where players can search for games depending on their agent versus impostor preference, and a playlist dedicated to open voice chat. UnlikeAmong Uson mobile platforms, where voice chat isn’t used as frequently, it makes sense for it to be readily available forFortnite, as many gamers typically play with a microphone.

It doesn’t stop there, though, as the officialAmong UsTwitter account responded to Fortnite’s post. After an exchange of messages,Fortnitestates, “Big fans! We never got to talk about how you inspired us. What do you think about working on something fun together sometime?” to whichAmong Usresponds saying, “yessss have ur Agents contact our Crewmates” with a handshake emoji. A leak from a couple of months ago suggested aFortniteandAmong Uscrossoverwas in the works, but if this conversation is any indication, it seems like some sort collaboration is definitely on the way.

WhileEpic Games' fight with Appledoesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon, it is nice to see things become settled between it and Innersloth. While Innersloth does not own the rights to its gameplay inAmong Us, from the start, Epic Games treaded a bit too close with the Impostors game mode and should have made some more radical changes to really make it its own thing. As it stands though, it seems like the two companies are on good terms, which meansFortniteandAmong Usfans should be getting some fun crossover content down the road, whatever that may be. How about a Crewmate skin forFortnite?
