A new batch of gameplay previews forFire Emblem Engageis focused on a character from a past entry in the series, Sigurd the Holy Knight. Fans got the first look and release date ofFire Emblem Engageback in September during a Nintendo Direct, including a new trailer. Not only does it introduce the newDivine Dragon protagonist Alearbut also pastFire Emblemlords in a major role. This integration sees them being equippable as a set of rings known as Emblems, which summon these familiar characters to Alear’s side.

Of the returning cast that was initially revealed inFire Emblem Engage’s reveal trailer, it includes characters like the iconic Marth, Celica, and even Sigurd. Sigurd himself originates fromFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, as the lord of the first generation of characters that the player will be able to control. He is the franchise’s first pre-promoted lord, and he rides a horse in almost all of his appearances, includingFire Emblem Heroes. These elements carry over into his appearance inFire Emblem Engage, with preview videos showing off the attributes he gives as an Emblem.

These previews were posted on the series' official Twitter account, with some translations provided by SatsumaFS. InFire Emblem Engage, Sigurd’s emblem is called the Crusader Emblem, a reference to him being one of the descendants of one of the Twelve Crusaders fromGenealogy’s world. The official profile describes him as an “upright” knight as well. Gamers got a brief look at his abilities being wielded by Alfred, one of the playable units in the game. Another video preview demonstrates some of the abilities he provides as an emblem.

As seen in the gameplay preview,Sigurd’s abilities from his home gameare retained in his Emblem ring. Since he is a cavalry unit with high movement, any unit equipped with his emblem will also be able to move further than usual, increasing their movement and tactical options. Not only that, after the equipped unit attacks, they can move again and retreat to a different part of the map.

Like the other gameplay previews with other revealed characters, the Twitter account also showed off a support conversation between Sigurd and another character, this one being Alear. In this conversation, he states how much he comes to care for Alear, noting him to be like his own child. Alear thanks Sigurd, noting that he feels their hearts are as one during battle. Some fans noted that while this does showSigurd’s fatherly side, the conversation strangely doesn’t mention Seliph, his actual child in the series. Some are hoping Seliph himself makes an appearance as an Emblem in some capacity as well.

Fire Emblem Engageis coming to the Nintendo Switch on June 25, 2025.
