Final Fantasy 6has long been one of the most popular games into Square-Enix’s massively popular RPG juggernaut. Since the initial release of the SNES version in 1994, the sixth main-series title followingthe iconic Terra Branfordhas been re-released multiple times across several console generations, with redrawn mobile and PC versions coming as recently as 2015. Now, as the franchise’s ‘Pixel Remaster’ series remaking the games from the long-running franchise’s NES and SNES era prepares its final entry, Square-Enix has officially revealed the release date for the highly-anticipated remaster.

TheFinal FantasyPixel Remastergames have been steadily releasing over the second half of 2021 and into 2022 since the remake of the first threeFinal Fantasygames released in July of last year. Since the batch release of the three games, Square-Enix has been slowly releasing more of the originals, withFinal Fantasy 4’s remake releasing in September and the remaster ofFinal Fantasy 5hitting Steam and mobile devices in October. Now, the final chapter of theFinal FantasyPixel Remaster series finally has a release date and fans of Terra, Kefka and the World of Balance/Ruin won’t be waiting much longer.

An update posted to the officialFinal FantasyTwitter account Wednesday morning officially confirmed the release date ofthe upcomingFinal Fantasy 6 remake. The remaster will officially release in just two weeks with the official release date set for February 23rd PST/GMT, launching on Steam and mobile devices. Alongside the announcement, the Tweet included a video featuring the iconic scene fromFinal Fantasy 6’s opening with the Magitek armor marching through a snowy tundra, accompanied by the game’s stunning remaster of Terra’s theme.

Fan speculation about the upcomingFinal Fantasy 6remaster has been rampant ever since the release ofFinal Fantasy 5 Pixel Remasterin November. Unlike previous versions of the game, the remake ofFinal Fantasy 6sports a ‘Teen’ rating from the ESRB leading many fans to believe the game may remove some censorship fromFinal Fantasy 6’s original release. Alongside the potential removal of censorship, the upcoming remaster will also look to fix many fan issues with past versions from bugs to sound quality across its various ports.

This year is set to be a major forFinal Fantasyas the franchise entering its 35th anniversary has plenty in store for fans throughout the year. AlongsideFinal Fantasy 6closing out the Pixel Remaster series,Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Originis scheduled to release in mid-March and Square-Enix has previously announced the highly-anticipatedFinal Fantasy 16will receive another reveal in spring of this year.
