Final Fantasy 14is adding a feature to the Island Sanctuary that brings it even closer to fulfilling the instanced housing dream. This new feature is somethingFinal Fantasy 14fans have been wanting to come to the Island Sanctuary since its introduction inEndwalker.
In a recent Letter from the Producer LIVE,Final Fantasy 14revealed Patch 6.4,The Dark Throne. Like the content patches before it, Patch 6.4 introduces a new dungeon, raid, and Main Scenario quests. The Island Sanctuary is also getting some big updates in the new patch. The farming sim game mode will get new rewards, materials, animals, structures, and ranks, further expanding the feature with more content. However, perhaps the most important thing coming to theIsland Sanctuary inFinal Fantasy 14is the ability to add outdoor furnishings near structures.
To begin with, players will be able to place up to 90 items in their hideaways after unlocking the feature through Island Sanctuary progress, but there are plans to increase this number inthe nextFinal Fantasy 14expansion. Certain special furnishings, like gardens and striking dummies, cannot be placed on the Island Sanctuary. TheFinal Fantasy 14development team compared this feature to the outdoor counterpart to the indoor housing apartments, and will have gameplay footage showing off the feature during the next Live Letter.
ManyFinal Fantasy 14fans seem excited about getting to decorate their Island Sanctuary. Though many players loved the new casual game modewhen it was introduced inFinal Fantasy 14Patch 6.2, others were disappointed with the lack of personal customization. Being able to decorate around the Island Sanctuary buildings is huge step in the right direction, and allows unlucky players who haven’t been able to get a personal house to use outdoor furnishings somewhere outside their Free Company estate.
Many players have been hopingFinal Fantasy 14would pull the trigger and add instanced housing to the game. Having the ability to see other players in the same neighborhood allows for great social experiences to occur naturally in the critically-acclaimed MMORPG, but actually getting a house is incredibly frustrating, even withFinal Fantasy 14’snew Housing Lottery system. While it is extremely unlikely thatFinal Fantasy 14will ever truly add instance housing, getting the ability to customize one’s own Island Sanctuary with outdoor furnishings is a pretty close substitute.
Final Fantasy 14is currently available on PC, PS4, and PS5.
