February is a hot month for rumors of video game reveals, and this month fans are eagerly awaiting any announcement from Nintendo that a Direct is on the way. With more and more rumors indicating that aNintendo Directpresentation is imminent, there are many possibilities as to what Nintendo could potentially show off.
Although rumors should be treated with skepticism, Nintendo’s history of Directs point to another presentation happening at some point in the near future, so rumors in this case are probably not far off. The last properNintendo Direct aired in Septemberof 2019, and it showcasedLuigi’s MansionandPokemon Sword and Shield. In the months after and up until this point, Nintendo has only held Directs dedicated to specific games likeFire Emblem Heroes, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, andPokemon Sword and Shield.

Recently, noted leaker and Twitter userSabi has claimed that two February Nintendo Directpresentations will be aired to show off the Switch’s upcoming year (and more than likely another look atAnimal Crossing New Horizons). Nintendo has historically held Directs in February so the case for such a presentation seems feasible. However, until Nintendo announces anything, fans will just have to wait for the surprise Twitter post that might randomly drop throughout the month. With all of that in mind, here are a bunch of games that Nintendo could showcase in a potential Direct.
Likely Topics For Nintendo’s February Direct
Nintendo typically hosts a Direct for every big upcoming first-party Switch (or mobile) title about a month before it’s release so fans can expect a potential Direct to showcase anotherlook atAnimal Crossing New Horizons, due to be released on August 11, 2025. Nintendo went into detail about the game and showed off a great deal of gameplay during E3 2019 but it could always stand to show off a little more about the title.
During the E3 2019 presentation, Nintendo didn’t talk about multiplayer in the game too extensively and deferred discussing until a later date. The little bit of multiplayer it did show off featured two players exploring together on one Joy-Con each. It also promised that the title would feature both offline and online multiplayer with up to eight players inhabiting a single island and interacting with each other.Other games that could be shown off instead or in addition toAnimal Crossing New Horizonsinclude some Wii U ports likeSuper Mario 3DandThe Wonderful 101,and potentially anewMario Kart.
Surprising Announcements That Would Blow Nintendo Fans Away
Outside ofAnimal Crossing New HorizonsandBravely Default 2,Nintendo hasn’t announced many big exclusive Switch games this year which is worrisome considering the launch of major competition like thePS5 and Xbox Series X. It could change all of that in the span of 30 minutes with some announcements that are actually very likely to happen sooner or later.
First, Nintendo could easily win so many people over by finally announcing theMetroid Prime Trilogyfor the Switch. The game doesn’t just have rumors backing its existence, but it has also been leaked by retailers in the past that it seems more of a matter of when, not if. The trilogy would obviously be a goodwill token to hold people over untilthe releaseMetroid Prime 4,which is another game that Nintendo could level the playing field with. These fourMetroid Primegames could make any Direct the biggest Direct ever, and it’s all entirely possible.
Otherwise, Nintendo could show off practically anything from the sequel toThe Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.Showcasing that game this year would be a significant shot across the bow against the PS5 and Xbox Series X (but especially against Sony which wouldn’t have a huge first-party exclusive in this scenario).Breath of the Wildis frequently looked to as the answer to the question, “why doesn’t Nintendo make powerful consoles?” It simply doesn’t need to, and showing off more of the sequel to such a game would rock the entire industry.
Nintendo could also act quick and announce the first character in the second fighter pass forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.Such a move wouldn’t be unprecedented as it announced Joker before the game even launched, to everyone’s surprise. If it did announce the next fighter, it would also go a long way toward calming down fans upset overByleth inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Whenever the next Nintendo Direct is finally announced, fans can rest easy knowing that these enormous announcements are actually entirely possible and would create a strong year for Nintendo. However, if Nintendo isn’t ready to announce these things, then fans should get used to waiting.
