Stat (also known as an attribute) inGenshin Impactrepresents a value with different effects. WhenGenshin Impactplayers open their character’s details, they will find three different groups of stats; Base Stats, Advanced Stats, and Elemental Types.

Each of these attributes can be increased with different kinds of equipment. Some characters' skills also enhance these values, so it’s important to understand who does what. To better understand the effect of each stat, gamers can read on.

Base Stats consist of:

HP

Health Points (HP) is the stat that measures the character’s durability. The more HP a character has, the harder it is for them to fall. DPS in games is generally “squishy”, which means they have low HP and would be defeated more easily.

Attack

Obviously, mostdamage inGenshin Impactscales with ATK. So far, all Normal Attacks scale with this stat, but some Elemental Skills and Bursts don’t. When it comes to this attribute, the most important thing to know is the difference between “Base ATK” and “Total ATK”.

Defense

Defense represents a character’s endurance when taking hits. The more defense a unit has, the less damage they will take in battle. But inGenshin Impact, this stat is rarely used to tank. Instead, stacking this attribute is done solely because the character’s ability scales with DEF.

Elemental Mastery

Elemental Mastery orEM inGenshin Impactis the most crucial statfor Elemental Reactions. The higher EM a character has, the better their Elemental Reactions’ damage will be. For Crystallize, this stat will further strengthen the generated Elemental Shards (though it’s mostly not recommended focusing on EM for Crystallized Reaction).

Stamina

Among the other Base Stats, Stamina is the only attribute that does not scale with the character itself. To get more of this stat, players have to offer Oculus to Mondstadt and Liyue’s Statue of the Seven. At max, Travelers can have 240 Stamina.

Meanwhile, Advanced Stats include:

Critical Rate

Critical Rate is the chance a critical hit will occur. This stat starts at 5% forevery character except Sangonomiya Kokomi, who begins with -100% Critical Rate instead.

RELATED:Genshin Impact: A Complete Guide To Xiao’s Constellations

The “golden ratio” for Critical Rate and Damage is1:2, so if a character has 150% Critical Damage, then ideally, they should have 75% Crit Rate. Although, of course, if someone has, for example, 250% Critical Damage, then the Crit Rate shouldn’t exceed 100%. Players can go above 100% Critical Rate, but it won’t be beneficial at all.

Critical Damage

Meanwhile, Critical Damage is the increased value of a critical hit. Each character starts with 50% Crit Damage, so their Critical Hit Damage is increased by 1.5 times. For example, if a Non-Crit Hit deals 1000 damage, then the Critical Hit is boosted to 1500.

Healing Bonus

Healing Bonus is an important stat for healers. When a unit heals someone (including themselves), the total value will be increased based on this attribute.

Incoming Healing Bonus

Incoming Healing Bonus may seem weird considering Healing Bonus stat exists, but it’s actually important to learn the difference.

TheHydro Resonance grants a 30% Incoming HealingBonus. This basically means the entire party will have 30% higher healing, but since this statis not the same as Healing Bonus, characters that scale from Healing Bonus will not benefit from it.

For example, Sangonomiya Kokomi’s second passive (A4) won’t scale with Incoming Healing Bonus, as it has the following effect:

Energy Recharge

Higher Energy Recharge (ER) means players can recharge their Elemental Burst faster. This stat starts at 100%, so 150% ER equals 1.5 times more Energy Regeneration. This stat is highly crucial for units that rely on their Elemental Burst. With the release ofEmblem of Severed Fate inGenshin Impact, stacking this stat can also further boost a character’s offensive performance.

Cooldown Reduction

Cooldown is how long a certain skill will be unavailable after casting. For this attribute, there aren’t many sources for global reduction, but the most notable ones would be Anemo Resonance (5% Reduction), C2 Chongyun’s Elemental Skill (15%), and Sacrificial weapons (Cooldown reset)

Shield Strength

Shield Strength is likely the most misunderstood stat because of theRetracing Bolideset. This artifact grants 35% Shield Strength, which has led many people to believe it’s the perfect equipment forGenshin Impactshielders like Zhongli. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple.

Shield Strength stat is only applied tothatparticular character. So if Zhongli has the +35% bonus but Hu Tao does not, then when Zhongli is swapped out, the shield Hu Tao has will not be strengthened. Therefore, if players want to benefit from Retracing Bolide artifacts, they should use it on their main DPS instead of the shield support.

This actually makes Retracing Bolide a decent set for many characters, but unfortunately, most DPS have their own best-in-slot items, so this artifact is often forgotten. Nevertheless, if players own Zhongli and have gotten a decentdrop of thisGenshin Impactitem, then it’s definitely worth trying out.

Elemental Type

The last category forGenshin Impactattributes is the Elemental Type. For this one, it’s actually divided into each Element (Pyro, Electro, Cryo, Hydro, Anemo, Geo, Dendro, and Physical). But since they function the same, the explanation will be shortened to “Elemental Damage Bonus” and “Elemental Resistance”.

Elemental Damage Bonus

Elemental Damage Bonus is an offensive attribute that increases the character’s damage of the corresponding Element. For example, ifRaiden Shogun inGenshin Impacthas Electro Damage Bonus, then she will deal higher Electro Damage.

Elemental Resistance

On the other hand, Resistance is a defensive stat that canreduce incoming damage to a certain character. The most notable source for this stat is theProtective Canopybuff. By having four different Elements in the team, it will trigger the following effect:

Genshin Impactis now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
