Everspace 2, the sequel to ROCKFISH Games' popular sci-fi roguelikehas finally revealed its long-awaited release date. ThePCtitle has spent two years in Early Access, and is finally making the jump to a full release.

Everspace 2represents another success of Steam’s Early Access program, as the developer was able to reinvest the money from early adopters into the future of the game. The program has proven successful for many other games, withArk: Survival Evolved,DayZ,andKerbal Space Programbeing some of the most notable graduates. ROCKFISH Games did Early Access right, providingdetailed roadmaps forEverspace 2throughout its development. It’s easy for many titles to end up in Early Access limbo, so every game that fully releases can be seen as a success.

The release date trailer doubles as a story trailer, giving prospective players a hint of what they can expect whenEverspace 2leaves Early Access on April 6. The game’s initial Early Access release came in January 2021, and has been followed by two years of consistent updates. According to ROCKFISH Games, theinitial Early Access launch ofEverspace 2surpassed their wildest expectations. The announcement also confirmed plans for console releases, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions tentatively planned for release sometime in Summer 2023, with the game simply too demanding for last-gen consoles to handle.

The full release ofEverspace 2isn’t all good news for players. As the game resembles a more complete product, ROCKFISH Games is increasing the price of the title from $39.99, to $49.99 on February 20. The developer has confirmed that there will be no sale of the game before this date, so this will be the final opportunity to getEverspace 2at a lower price, at least for a while. The developer attributes the increase toXbox Game Pass, which allowedEverspace 2to receive an expanded development budget. Because of this, ROCKFISH Games was able to create a much larger game, which justifies the higher final price.

With the game now making its way to full release, it’s unclear how long ROCKFISH Games is planning to supportEverspace 2post-launch. The developer has confirmed plans for a sizable paid DLC sometime in the future, although fans may expect more details once the game officially makes the leap fromSteam Early Access. Players can look at the originalEverspacefrom 2017, which also featured a major expansion for players to explore post-launch.

Everspace 2is available in Early Access now on PC and officially releases April 6, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions planned for Summer 2023.
