Tribes of Midgard, the Norse-themed survival RPG published by Gearbox’s game publishing branch and developed by Norsfell, has been out on PC and PlayStation 5 for a fair few months now, having attained generally mixed-to-positive review ratings across both platforms. The game may soon open up its doors for a significantly bigger player base, however.
Namely,Tribes of Midgardhas just been rated by ESRB for Xbox and Nintendo Switch platforms, and though this doesn’t necessarily mean that there’s an imminent release pending, odds are good that this isn’t a far-future plan, either. Parents interested in playing the game with their kids shouldn’t be worried, either, as its ESRB description is expectedly tame.

Though players have been wondering ifTribes of Midgardwas coming to Nintendo Switchsince the game’s initial release, back in July 2021, there hasn’t been much information available on the topic up until now. In fact, there aren’t any official announcements being made at the time of writing this article, either, but now that ESRB has ratedTribes of Midgardas a “Teen” game for both Switch and Xbox One and Series consoles, it’s seemingly all but confirmed that it’s finally happening.
Players found manythings to love inTribes of Midgard, although it’s plainly obvious that the game is far from perfect. The ESRB listing makes mention of its top-down perspective gameplay and mild, fantasy-level violence, but it’s also worth keeping in mind that the game is rather beautiful and satisfying to play. Its short progression beats and cel-shaded graphics will be a good fit on Nintendo Switch, and there’s bound to be an audience of players eager to join in on Xbox platforms, too.
On that note, interested players ought to keep in mind that there are manymistakes one could make inTribes of Midgard. The game might seem like a straightforward Norse-themed hack ‘n’ slash, but many of its features are drawn from fully-fledged survival games, and it even has elements of tower defense present. This means that getting acquainted withTribes' systems and features will need to be a priority for new players.
Since there aren’t any official announcements promoting the game, there’s no word on possible Switch and Xbox release dates either. It seems like a reasonable bet, however, that it could come out on July 27th, which will be the one-year anniversary of its PC/PlayStation release. It’s going to be interesting to see if Gearbox and Norsfell have got any new content updates andfixes necessary inTribes of Midgard, as those would be welcomed by the community at large.
