It can become heartbreaking if player is unable to re-collect their runes after their death, thus preventing them from leveling up and dooming them to restart their rune collecting from literal zero. That’s why it’s so impressive that anElden Ringplayer wound up accidentally pulling off an impressive feat by collecting the exact number of runes they needed to level up.

Elden Ringis a third-person action RPG developed by the legendary FromSoftware. As with nearly all FromSoftware games,Elden Ringtasks players with collecting experience points to level up their characters.InElden RingXP is referred to as Runes. Many a player has wandered the Lands Between slaying enemies big and small, only to reach a Site of Grace to find that they’re short a few runes when they attempt to level up their stats. With such a wide variety of enemies strewn about, all of whom drop various amounts of runes, it can be difficult for a player to know if they currently meet or exceed the threshold required for leveling up.

AnElden Ringplayer on Reddit who goes by the name MrAceofKings essentially hit theElden Ringversion of the lottery. MrAceofKings visited a Site of Grace after a presumably arduous run of enemy slaying to discoverthat they had the exact number of runes requiredto reach the next level. With 122,432 runes on-hand, that places MrAceofKings at level 135, and giving them the exact number of runes needed to reach level 136. The absolute highest level the player can reach inElden Ringis 713, with each of the eight stats governing player abilities capping out at 99.

According toElden Ringwiki Fextralife, the appropriate level a player should reach to be strong enough to defeat the string offinal bosses is anywhere between 120 to 150. This puts MrAceofKings firmly in the sweet spot of being able to dispatch every enemyElden Ringhas to offer with relative ease. MrAceofKings didn’t specify exactly how far along in the game’s narrative they were the moment they landed on the exact number of runes needed to level up, but it’s safe to assume they’re in the latter stages of the game.

As with most FromSoftware games,Elden Ringplayers are constantly finding themselvesin funny and odd situations like this. The game is practically built to be organically funny without saddling itself with line after line of dialogue that’s attempting to be witty but ultimately falls flat like so many other games.Elden Ringis funny on a mechanical and systemic level, with all of its charming quirks and hilarious outcomes stemming from the player’s direct interaction with the world.
