OneElden Ringplayer has perofrmed a ridiculous feat, climbing up a huge mountain covered in blood to escape the regular play area. WithElden Ring’s world being as wide-reaching as it is, there are many places players can go to just by walking around normally, but there are several places that players can only get to through breaking the system, and discover places never thought to be attainable, like players that have been able to getunder Leyndell by utilizing Malenia’s blades. With this player, they managed to climb up a mountain that didn’t seem climbable in the first place.
Traversal and platforming was never a strong suit of past FromSoftware games, with jumping only really being possible if the player was sprinting, meaning plenty of distance would be required to even jump in games like Dark Souls. The studio’s first game to actually have not just jumping, but a focus on platforming, wasSekiro, and this transferred over toElden Ringby giving the player the ability to jump whenever they please, giving an easier way forElden Ringplayers to jump off ledges in-game. However, what mostly helped in the long run is thatElden Ringgives the player a mount that can jump as well: Torrent.

It is with Torrent that thisElden Ringplayer manages to make such an odd climb up this mountain. Posting to theElden Ringsubreddit, user Confident_Knee uploaded a video of their trek up the perilous mountain in the Lands Between’s underground areas using Torrent. It does take a few moments for the player to gain the correct footing several times, with them finding several footholds to jump towards and land on, even if they are only doing so by a few pixels. Eventually, they are able to scale the entire mountain, getting to the top where the player celebrates their victorious ascension.
In the comments, many users commended not just the player for their ability to climb the mountain, but FromSoftware as well for not putting any invisible walls throughout the climb that would deter players from attempting it like theinvisible walls inCall of Duty Warzone’s Rebirth Island. Instead, the developer allows players to go wherever they please if they can manage to do so, a small bit of freedom that they appreciate.
Games boasting open worlds should in turn give those players the freedom to go wherever they choose whenever they want, even if those places should be locked off. Eventually, players will be able to find their way there if they are determined enough, either just by sheer willpower or byfinding ways to shield surf indefinitely inTears of the Kingdom. This video is proof thatElden Ringencourages exploration, even if it doesn’t result in a tangible reward.
