From the comedic genius ofHot Fuzzto the get-away driving classicBaby Driver, Wright’s films cover a variety of genres. This time he brings a psychological horror film just in time for Halloween:Universal Pictures’Last Night in Soho.
While theLast Night in Sohotrailerhas been out for some time, Wright recently released a slightly longer preview that gives audiences a deeper look into theUniversalfilm. TheLast Night in Sohotrailer brings the viewer into a confusing and peculiar 1960s dreamscape where nothing is quite what it seems. A young girl, Eloise, enters the dream world every night when she goes to bed and lives the life of a very different young woman in the sixties named Joy. The trailer seeps into obscurity when Eloise loses excitement over her other life that jarringly becomes filled with threats and violence. The dream world sweeps into reality as Eloise seemingly becomes convinced that the woman she was in her dreams was a murder victim.
The newLast Night in Soho trailer includes new and old shots throughout, but the end of the preview introduces the audience to a new character (or rather his possibly older self). A young man and love interest in the dream world is revealed by Eloise as the possible murderer of Joy. In the trailer, we see shots of an older gentleman who is juxtaposed with images of the young man in Eloise’s dreams as she approaches him. The older man seems secretive and apprehensive, leaving the viewer a little uncertain about his identity.
The film includes an impressive cast with some well-known and up-and-coming performers.Anya Taylor-Joy (Queen’s Gambit)co-stars in the upcoming film Joy along with Thomasin McKenzie as Eloise (Old,Jojo Rabbit). Other notable cast members include Jessie Mei Li (Shadow and Bone) as Lara, Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Jack, andDiana Rigg (Game of Thrones)as Miss Collins, among others.
Wright, however, is known for not letting his trailers reveal much about his films, with some previews even bordering on being misleading. With this in mind, there is probablyfar more toLast Night in Sohothan meets the eye. The trailer only seems to reveal clips from the first half of the film, so what more is left to be uncovered will just half to wait until the premiere date.
