Summary
AsDragon Age: Dreadwolfpromises to be the series' most expansive game across the Tevinter Imperium and beyond, and the regions set to appear provide the perfect opportunity for fan-favorite companions to return. Via the new trailer revealed during 2023’s Dragon Age Day, BioWare teased various regions planned forDragon Age: Dreadwolf, leading many fans to speculate if any familiar faces could be making a comeback. More specifically, with the known regions in mind,Dreadwolfmay see companions fromDragon Age: OriginsandDragon Age 2make a comeback.
WithDragon Age: Inquisitionreferencing and even featuring past series characters, it seems inevitable thatDreadwolfwill continue the trend, especially since the likes of Varric Tethras and Solas are all but confirmed to appear in the upcoming game. But with a lack of information regarding any other characters set to appear inDreadwolf, it has been difficult to predict who else from across the series might make their return. However,Dreadwolf’s game-changing multiple regionsmay be all that is needed to determine which classic companions could resurface in the upcomingDragon Agegame.
Characters Potentially Returning From Across Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s Multiple Settings
Characters With Potential Ties to Tevinter
The ending ofInquisitionand its Trespasser DLC established a clear and ambitious scope forDreadwolf, setting the stage for returning characters. While the Inquisitor is likely to have some involvement withDreadwolf’s story, much like Hawke did forInquisition, other companions could include fellow Inquisition members like Dorian Parvus after the DLC confirmed he had taken a seat in the Magisterium. However, similar to otherDragon Ageparty members who returnedin later games, those introduced inInquisitionmay potentially take a backseat toDreadwolf’s newer companions, like Davrin the Grey Warden or the unknown Bellara.
Dreadwolfcould instead bring back older characters that haven’t been seen by players in over a decade, such as Fenris. Depending on his fate followingDragon Age 2, Fenris seems just as likely to return as Dorian, as his ongoing development as a former slave fugitive turned vigilante mercenary and distrust toward mages practically guarantees that he’ll eventually cross the player’s path inDreadwolfsooner or later. But with the epilogue ofInquisition’s DLC suggesting that elves are siding with Solas, there’s every chance a returning Fenrisjoins the player as another ofDreadwolf’s companions, or he allies with its villain instead.
Characters With Potential Ties to Antivan
Another elven character that could also return inDreadwolfis Zevran Arainai, whose checkered past and ongoing conflict with the Antivan Crows could similarly steer him in the player’s direction when they explore the Antiva region. This seems even more likely given that Zevran has ties to Varric and appeared in several war table operations duringInquisition, whileDreadwolfhas teased that one of its new companionscould be an Antivan Crow. But much like the possibility of Fenris coming back into the fold inDreadwolf, Zevran’s Dalish elven background could see him convinced to side with Solas.
Characters With Potential Ties to Rivain
Beyond Tevinter and Antiva, however,Dreadwolfalso appears to be visiting Rivain, the last known location of Isabela who had become a self-appointed admiral with the Raiders of the Waking Sea, according to Varric inInquisition. With ties to both Varric and Zevran, Isabela is another fan-favorite character that might return inDreadwolf, especially when Rivain’s culture and history regarding elves, magic, and religion might connect to or even complicate Solas' potential plans. Moreover,Dreadwolfhas hinted that another of its key characters will come from Rivain, meaning this could be an early sign that Isabela will accompany the player once again.
