Summary
ADiablo 4player has spotted multiple cosmetics with placeholder images in the controversial microtransaction shop. SinceDiablo 4was released, it has sold a rotating lineup of cosmetics in its shop to add to those offered by the different editions of the game, but this equipment may not have the intended imagery.
Diablo 4was released with Deluxe and Ultimate editionsthat included their own in-game items for players to customize their characters with. The Deluxe edition included a mount with armor and Season 1 Battle Pass, while the Ultimate edition had those, plus the Wings of the Creator Emote, and 20 tier skips for the pass. While the Standard edition of the game offered cross-game items, it lacked the variety offered by the higher-tier editions. The Battle Pass also had 90 levels of rewards including Platinum currency, weapons, armor, and player titles. OneDiablo 4player has spotted some awkward placeholder images while exploring the paid cosmetics shop.
Reddit user Z0ttel89 recently shared three images from the equipment portion oftheDiablo 4cosmetics shop. Each image highlights a different character in the Vitreous Malevolence section which was first added in Season 3. In the area of the screen where it highlights the skin being looked at, the Druid, Necromancer, and Rogue models all had diagonal text saying “Placeholder” across them. Because the placeholder text is somewhat translucent, gamers are still able to see the characters underneath, but it may be an awkward surprise for prospective purchasers to ignore. While placeholder images have been spotted in live service games likeFortnite,Call of Duty, andGenshin Impact, they are rare for theDiabloseries.
What Are the Vitreous Malevolence Bundles?
Though the skins aren’t shown off in these shop images, the Vitreous Malevolence equipment shares a similar aesthetic regardless of which hero wears them. The armor sets are made of crystal and demon bone that visually rivals the best sets in the game. They have a blue and purple color scheme, with a lot of attention to detail, particularly in the helmets. Each Vitreous Malevolence bundle costs 2,600 Platinum, which costs roughly $26, and the equipment can be transmogged to different armor sets in the game. Because the armor sets were replaced by a placeholder in these images, some fans are speculating thatthe Blizzard layoffshave impacted theDiablo 4cosmetics team.
As many gamers like to observe the cosmetics before purchasing them, this placeholder issue may impact the sales of these bundles. AsBlizzard continues to updateDiablo 4and the shop rotates every 24 hours, the placeholder could be replaced with the appropriate equipment images by the next time they’re listed.
