Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’s Task Force 29 is an Interpol-funded anti-terrorism intelligence and response team. Its goal is to combat the rise in terrorism that has resulted from the Aug Incident. To deal with these threats as effectively as possible, Task Force 29 has global jurisdiction that is not hampered by bureaucracy.
The task force is headquartered in Lyon and has local divisions operating all over the world inDeus Ex: Mankind Divided. Each branch is led by a director, and they communicate and plan using the Neural SubNet. During the game, Jim Miller is the director in charge of the Task Force 29 Prague branch.

Task Force 29’s Background
Shortly afterthe Aug Incident, in 2027, black market sales of weapons and augmentations acquired by both sides of the augmentation debate reached unprecedented heights. Simultaneously, local intelligence agencies failed to prevent a wave of high-profile attacks by both augmented and “naturals” around the world.
The United Nations blamed the failures on a lack of international intelligence sharing and called for the creation of an integrated anti-terrorist intelligence and response team overseen by Interpol. As a result, in 2028, Task Force 29 was established. Its name alludes to the 29 founding member countries. The Task Force was given the leadership of Joseph Manderley.
Due to the sensitive and highly confidential nature of its operations, TF29 adheres to a strict code of professional secrecy. As a result, its operations are generally unknown to the public.
Task Force 29’s Activities In North America
The Alpha team of TF29’s North American division was sent into Detroit in 2029 to stop the illegal trafficking of military-grade augmentations by arms dealer Sheppard. They stop Sheppard from airlifting the augmentations out of Detroit with the help ofAdam Jensen, who had recently fallen into the custody of TF29, but Sheppard escapes. Christian Jarreau, the local TF29 commander, approached Jensen and invited him to join TF29.
Later, TF29 tried to ship the augmentations by train to a military base for disposal, but they were attacked by augmented operatives sent by the Illuminati to retrieve the augmentations. The TF29 operatives aboard the train were killed, but Jensen caused the train to derail and crash, destroying the augmentations. Jensen became more interested in joining TF29 as time went on.
While the Alpha team was attempting to apprehend Sheppard, theNorth AmericanDivision’s Bravo and Delta teams were investigating a Triad Harvester ring based in Vancouver and a rogue militia group operating in the New Mexico badlands, respectively.
As a member of the North American Division, Jensen was tasked with contacting Hector Guerrero, an Interpol agent deep undercover inside the Pent House who had gone dark. Jensen is eventually assigned to theCentral EuropeanDivision. The Juggernaut Collective sought this transfer because they believed TF29 had been compromised by the Illuminati and intended to send Jensen to investigate Illuminati activity at the Central European Division.
Task Force 29’s Activities In Central Europe
The Central European Division, which now included Jensen, investigated and foiled a terrorist group led by Sebastian King inDeus Ex Universe: Children’s Crusade. It is later revealed that the Illuminati secretly supplied Sebastian with the weapons to instigate terrorist acts to sway public opinion against the augmented prior to the announcement of the Human Restoration Act.
TF29 was still attempting to apprehend Sheppard in the year 2029. An undercover agent informed Lyon headquarters that the Sheppard would be in Dubai for an arms deal with a terrorist organization. Despite the fact that the Oman Division was much closer toDubai, director Manderley directed Jim Miller to send his Central European Division to Prague. Gold-masked mercenaries in Dubai then ambushed the Prague team, but they were able to stop them from fleeing. One member of TF29 believed they were purposefully sent to Dubai to witness the ambush.
TF29 suspected the Augmented Rights Coalition of being behind a number of terrorist attacks, including the bombing of Rika Station. As a result, it wished to summon ARC’s leader, Talos Rucker, for questioning. TheTask Forcedispatched Adam Jensen to the ARC headquarters within Golem City to retrieve Rucker. When Jensen arrived at Rucker’s office, he explained that ARC was being framed for terrorist attacks and that the framers were hiding in “plain sight” before dying from an unnatural cause.
When Jensen returns to Prague, he learned from a saved NSN conversation that the head director, Manderley, was an Illuminati conspirator and was responsible for Rucker’s death. Furthermore, the Illuminati was attempting to blame ARC for a series of terrorist attacks, including a phony attack on VersaLife. When TF29 realized Nathaniel Brown was the target of another terrorist attack (with only Jensen knowing it was planned by the Illuminati), Miller and his team traveled toLondonto stop it.
