The Titan players inDestiny 2’s community are still swallowing the hard pill that the Strand subclass amounted to, although this isn’t the only thing encroaching on Titans lately inDestiny 2. The Strand subclass further established Titans as characters focused around melee playstyles, yet Warlock and Hunter Supers can outclass Titan Supers with range and/or speed in some cases. In addition to seemingly outdated melee-based Supers, the Titan class’ biggest trump card is being quietly replaced by a popular Super from another character’s class.
For a long while ofDestiny 2’s life cycle, Titans were strong contenders forthe best class inDestiny 2, but a lot has changed over the years. Namely, the latest Supers and 3.0 subclasses blurring the lines between the class roles inDestiny 2. During and leading up to the Lightfall era ofDestiny 2, Titans are slowly becoming the victim of power creep while Warlocks and Hunters are stealing the spotlight.

Destiny 2’s Well Of Radiance and Ward Of Dawn Supers
Titan’s Ward of Dawn is no longer the go-to support Super. It all went downhill forDestiny 2’s Titan class when Warlocks received theWell Of Radiance Superfor the Solar subclass. Titan’s protective bubble is still effective for holding a specific location, but Well Of Radiance solves the main problem that the Ward Of Dawn creates. Anyone inside the Titan’s Ward Of Dawn can’t shoot outside the bubble shield and players lose the defensive buff when they leave the bubble. Players still keep their damage buff when leaving the shield, but losing the defensive buff makes players considerably vulnerable.
The Warlock’s Well Of Radiance grants a slightly reduced offensive damage buff compared to the Ward Of Dawn’s damage buff, however, players can engage with distant enemies from within the Super. What makes the Well Of Radiance the superior pick is that it does everything the Ward Of Dawn does, while meanwhile allowing players to shoot from the safety provided by the defensive/healing buff. The difference between these two Supers is particularly noticeable in Raid DPS encounters, and in the different PvP game modes, especiallyDestiny 2’s competitive PvP activities. While Well Of Radiance has been around for a long time, 3.0 subclasses made roles blurry.
3.0 Subclasses in Destiny 2
Destiny 2’s 3.0 subclassesblurred the lines between most of the class identities, although Titan’s got the short end of the stick on that ordeal. Hunters' signature invisibility became available to all classes, although it isn’t easy to replicate for Warlocks and Titans. Warlocks and Titans in particular are remarkably similar nowadays, except that their unique class ability is one of the few distinguishing factors. After the nerfs to Solar 3.0’s Restoration, many Titan players resorted to other builds to help in endgame content.
The 3.0 subclass updates completely turned the tides of what is considered the strongest class inDestiny 2. At launch, Titans were a formidable and unstoppable force, but as of the Lightfall era,Destiny 2’s Titansare arguably second to Warlocks. 3.0 Warlocks are now relatively a jack of all trades inDestiny 2, in comparison, as they have access to many supportive options as well as high-damaging ones, including their new Strand Super.
The majority of Titan subclasses have melee-based Supers, which made it particularly frustrating when the newStrand subclass from Lightfallgave them another roaming Super that’s about throwing fists. Titan’s abundance of melee-focused subclasses and Exotics wouldn’t necessarily be problematic, except that Hunters and Warlocks have melee or other close-quarters Supers that have more range than most of the Titans'. This bridges the gap with enemies with ease and allows for safe gameplay.
Since the other classes have melee or close-quarters Supers that have longer reach than most Titan melee Supers, Titans can be easily defeated in a PvP clash of Supers, where the Ward Of Dawn truly shines, instead. The one redeeming quality of Titans is their shielding capabilities, both physically and with over-shield buffs. Otherwise, Titans' support and melee-focused identity can easily take a backseat compared to Warlocks and Hunters'.
