The latest season inDestiny 2finally brings fishing to the game, though the unfortunate experiences of a few fans have shown that the game’s method of detecting inactive players can potentially undo hours of work at the fishing lake.Destiny 2’s Season of the Deep allows players to once again return to the methane oceans of Titan, though many in the community feel like the new fishing feature has plenty of room to improve in certain areas.
Fishing inDestiny 2works much the same way as it does in many other games. Players can set themselves up at their designated fishing lake of choice, cast their reel, and wait patiently for a bite which can then be reeled in by hitting a button prompt in a timely manner. While there’s nothing particularly groundbreaking there, Bungie has put its own spin on the fishing minigame by introducing a buff known as Focused Fishing. This buff provides a meter which grants better odds of catching rare fish depending on how full it is. There’s a decent range of unique fish that are each of a certain rarity, which can be traded in for legendary and exotic loot as well as upgrade materials.

Though this new fishing mechanic was a welcome surprise for much of the community, someDestiny 2fans haven’t held back in sharing their own gripesregarding the feature. One clip shared recently by a fan on Reddit has quickly gained popularity on social media though, as it highlights how the game’s idle detection presents a problem for fishing enthusiasts who prefer to focus on something else while doing their fishing. The clip shows the player being booted to orbit due to a lack of movement being considered inactivity, permanently separating the player from all their acquired fish that they had yet to collect.
Unlike most otherforms of loot inDestiny 2, any fish that have been reeled in but not picked up are not automatically delivered to the postmaster. It can be easy to lose track of time while fishing, and with frequent game crashes and server outages affecting players all over, it’s all the more important for fishing fans to collect their winnings while they can. Another thing to keep in mind is the temporary disappearance of fishing spots when nearby public events are active, which often results in the interruption of long fishing streaks.
With new sets of themed armor and weapons, as well as a variety of seasonal activities and a sparkly new dungeon for players to dive into, Season of the Deep seems to be off to a pretty good start in terms of content. Fans have already become acquainted with a few new bugs though, with much of theDestiny 2community currently helping themselves to legendary shardswhile they still have the chance to.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S/
