Summary

Bungie has revealed more about its upcomingDestiny 2limited-time event, Into the Light, showing off a series of classic weapons returning to the game. The weapons will be available after Into the Light launches inDestiny 2on July 06, 2025.

Bungie has changedDestiny 2and its service model in various ways since its original launch in 2017, and the arrival ofThe Final Shapeexpansion will herald a new overhaul to the way Bungie delivers newDestiny 2content to players. Before that, though, Bungie plans forInto the Lightto help tide players over untilThe Final Shapelaunches. It also helps thatInto the Light is free for allDestiny 2players, taking any potential sting out of the perception that it’s a “stopgap” measure intended to account forThe Final Shape’s delay.

In the second of three plannedInto the Light promotional livestreams, Bungie revealed more about the rewards players will be able to gather as they playDestiny 2Into the Light and Onslaught.Onslaught is a newDestiny 2game modefocused on combating progressive waves of enemies, and places players in the role of Guardians defending the Last City from the forces of the Witness. Some of the most exciting rewards from playing Into the Light are updated versions of some classicDestiny 2and originalDestinyweapons.

Destiny 2 Into the Light Returning Classic Weapons

During the livestream, Bungie said that the weapons returning with Into the Light are effectively a “greatest hits” list of weapons fromDestiny 2raids, pinnacle pursuits, and other activities. Some of the weapons, like the Midnight Coup handcannon, were exclusive to raids no longer actively in the game, like Leviathan. Others, like the Mountaintop grenade launcher and Recluse submachine gun, were so dominant in PVP that they were “sunset” to help preserve game balance. Into the Light will also addarmor sets based on the classicDestiny 2armor sets from the launch era.

The weapons returning forDestiny 2Into the Light aren’t strictly the same as their original incarnations, but are reissues with new perk pools and even rare “Limited Edition” versions that drop with new looks and extra perks. So, strictly speaking, the Into the Light Mountaintop probably won’t beas dominant as the originalDestiny 2Mountaintop.

WhileDestiny 2Into the Light is a way for Bungie to keep players interested in the game while they wait forThe Final Shapeto launch, Bungie is making it quite appealing to veterans, allowing them to welcome in the new expansion with a vault full of returned classic weapons.
