Summary
During its showcase event, Bungie surprisingly reveals new super abilities for Arc, Void, and Solar subclasses whenDestiny 2: The Final Shape launches next year. For many, the appeal ofDestiny 2is the power fantasy it instills, turning player characters into this sci-fi space wizard who can wield the power of electricity, fire, and ice at will. While the original game and the current title began with just Arc, Solar, and Void abilities, the game as continued to expand and evolve, eventuallyadding Strand and Stasis intoDestiny 2as well.
The most recent abilities came within expansions, Beyond Light and Lightfall respectively, so players have placed some expectations on each content expansion that launches. Over the past month or two, fans have seemingly convinced themselves that athird darkness power would be added toDestiny 2, thereby evening out both the Light and Darkness abilities to three each, though according to Bungie’s latest showcase event, that doesn’t seem to be happening at this point.

Duringthe Final Shape showcase, Design Lead Eric Smith and Art Director Dave Samuel introduced three new light-based super abilities. While inside the Pyramid, players will be able to harness additional energy which results in new powers to tap into. The first should be familiar to longtime Warlock players which was inspired by Radiance, though in this case, players will fire off tons of solar projectiles, double the amount of melee strikes, and turns the grenade into a small phoenix that seeks out enemies and bounces between them. What’s more, is that when this super is activated, it empowers nearby ally weapons and gives them a solar orb when standing in a rift.
Titans get a new void super known as Twilight Arsenal which has them jump into the air and fire off three giant axes as a projectile. The axes pull enemies in and then explode, but the axes themselves don’t disappear and can be picked up by alliedDestiny 2players to be used as a large and powerful melee weapon. Alternatively, with a new aspect, the grenade can be turned into a shield that empowers based on how much damage it has taken, before releasing a blast outward.
Last but not least at Hunters, which gets a new arc super that has them throw a knife forward at enemies. As it lands, the Hunter warps to that location, picking up the knife and releasing a devastating electropulse that destroys enemies in the radius. Hunters also get an aspect that creates an vertical arc staff burst amplifying the player and all nearby allies around.
In addition to new super abilities,The Final Shape is also introducing a new enemy called the Subjugator. While looking a bit like Rhulk, the subjugator is a new enemy unit that appears on the battlefield in more of a support role. They wield Strand and Stasis abilities, as evidenced by their armor and color types, using ice crystals or strand tangles to slow and hinder players.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
