Summary
The Demon King Muzan is the strongest demon in the entireDemon Slayerseries and is known to be the Demon Slayer Corp’s main adversary along with his band of demons who enjoy killing and eating humans to gain strength. Muzan is also the reason demons exist because of his ability to create demons at will.
Born during the Heian Era of ancient Japan, his demon form was the result of an experiment gone wrong when trying to cure him of a sickness. After becoming a demon, Muzan realized how powerful he is, but to become stronger he had to consume human flesh and had a weakness to sunlight, so he began searching for ways to live an eternal life.
The King Of Demons
Muzan’s also realized that theonly two ways he wouldbe able to become immortal was by finding the Blue spider lily which will nullify his weakness to the sun, or to absorb the body of a demon who is capable of walking in sunlight, that demon being Nezuko. As long as Muzan stayed away from the sun and operated at night, he was unstoppable. For the longest time Muzan believed that he was untouchable, that was before he came across Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the inventor of the breathing styles and the person who invented the first breathing style, sun breathing. Yoriichi was known to be the strongest Demon Slayer to have ever lived. During their confrontation Muzan had underestimated Yoriichi’s power and was quickly overthrown, when cornered,Muzan blew himself up scatteringhimself into a thousand pieces, the flesh pieces that did survive was enough for him to regenerate his body and escape.
The first time Muzan appears in the series, he is seen as tall man with a fashionable black suit and white fedora. His cat like gleaming eyes gives off a calm yet menacing look. Muzan is seen to take the form of many disguises,one of them being a womanand a young child, he takes these forms in order to blend in when out in public and to not attract attention from the Demon Slayers. It is also later revealed that Muzan was born into the Ubuyashiki family, the same bloodline as of Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the 97th leader of the Demon Slayer corps. Muzan’s decision to become a demon was the catalyst that led to the curse of the Ubuyashiki bloodline, as a result, the future generations born into the family were always weak and sick, preventing them from aging and ultimately dying young.
As the Demon King, Muzan was known to be ruthless, unforgiving, manipulative and arrogant. If he isnot pleased he does not hesitateto lash out and kill those who angers him, this is seen when he mercilessly massacres all the lower demon moons but one when he was disappointed in them. His volatile temperament is explosive making him a terrifying being to those weaker than him. He is easily angered if he feels like he is being questioned and disrespected.The God complex which he embraces prevents him from seeing the wrongs in his actions and believes he can do whatever he wants without repercussions, he is also emotionally detached from both humans and demons alike and views them as nothing but objects which he can use to do his bidding and is also willing to kill his own if it aids his purpose. Because of his fear of death, Muzan also believes in self-preservation as he believes that he will someday be discovered or betrayed, this could be another reason for his impulse decisions to kill, making him an unpredictable character.By securing himself as the pinnacle of power, he is determined to avoid any threats to his existence.
Although Muzan is recognized as being evil, there are rare instances in which he is shown to be compassionate, one of these instances was giving Rui a family after he found out Rui had a troubled childhood and just wanted to belong and be part of a family, another instance was when he gave Daki and Gyutaro permission to be one body, so they could stay together as brother and sister.
Blood Demon Art And Abilities
As the strongest demon in existence, Muzan is an extremely powerful being who possessesimmense intellect and blood demon art, as a demon who has lived for years and years, Muzan was able to learn and harness his knowledge to his advantage by avoiding the Demon Slayer Corps and help him with his research to find a solution to eternal life. His abilities also includes the ability to absorb or dissolve organic and inorganic objects, which means he can absorb the bodies of whoever he chooses. In combat mode, Muzan is able to take the shape of a more monster like appearance with an enhanced physique and sharp toothed mouths going across his body in various places. He is also able to turn his arms into whips with blades that can slash at opponents. Thesewhips can protrude from his backand thighs as well, giving him a wider reach when attacking.
Thanks to his advanced regenerative abilities, Muzan is alsoable to regenerate his body extremely fastcompared to other demons, making him even harder to kill, he was able to find ways to recover from being slashed by a bright red nichirin sword, showing the growth he has gone over the years to nullify himself from powerful attacks. Muzan’s blood also has special mutagenic properties that can enhance a demon’s preexisting abilities making his blood special and high dosages of it can prove to be poisonous. He also has the ability to transfer his consciousness to either a suitable host or demon if he needs to. Apart from this he is able to control the demons he created to some extent. Being the Demon King, Muzan possesses twice or thrice the power of a regular demon, this means that he possesses immense speed and reflexes and unlimited stamina and endurance, enabling him to fight for long periods of time without weakening. Just like other demons, Muzan has an acute sensory perception, giving him the ability to sense the presence and disposition ofeither humans or demons froma great distance.
Apart from all this, Muzan also has a very distinctive anatomy, which he developed but altering his own body to his needs. This means Muzan has a total of seven hearts and five brains, making him again, very hard to kill. However, if a significant portion of these organs were to be destroyed, he would immediately be weakened. Remarkable strength is also something that Muzan possesses as his level of strength is known to surpass any demon alive, after all he created demons himself and gave them their abilities, which makes him the supreme product of what apowerful yet dangerous demonis meant to be.
Overall, Muzan is the strongest demon in the Demon Slayer series, making him an extremely difficult being to kill as he will do anything in his power to avoid death and keep using his abilities to stay alive by any means necessary. His expansive blood demon art which allows him to transform into powerful beings and his immense strength make him anextremely formidable adversaryfor the Demon Slayer Corps.
