Deadpool & Wolverineis full of cameos and easter eggs to celebrate not only the MCU but the 20th Century Fox universe that came before it.Deadpool & Wolverineblends the multiverse with triumphant action and hilarity, whilst also acknowledgingthe faults of Fox and Disney Marvel movieswith a sprinkle of easter eggs.
Every Marvel movie has an abundance of easter eggs, andDeadpool & Wolverineis no exception to the rule, providing fans with some excitingeye-poppingfinds, with more soon to be discovered as more people head to the theaters to check the latest MCU movie out.
8A New Wolverine
Henry Cavill Becomes The Cavillerine
When Wade Wilson goes multiverse-hopping, he cues a montage of Wolverine discoveries. Whilst most are played by Hugh Jackman, there are a few notable standouts.Deadpool meets Wolverine’s Patchpersona, a comic-accurate 5’3” Wolverine, a crucified Wolverine from Uncanny X-Men #251, and even the classic John Byrne Wolverine donning a yellow and brown suit about to fight the Hulk.
Yet, there is one Wolverine that stands out above the rest: a new face for a familiar role. For the first time in 24 years, a new actor plays Wolverine, and Henry Cavill is revealed in a brilliant cameo and a sly dig at DC’s treatment of their former Superman. It’s brief, but extremely cool, especially when he reloads his arms like Mission Impossible: Fallout.
7Earth-616
The Official Name Of The MCU Is The Official Name Of The Comics
The beginning ofDeadpool & WolverinefeaturesWade taking a quick little tripto the Sacred Timeline, which is titled in the film Earth-616. This is an important title to hold, as Earth-616 is the main timeline in the comics, acting as the canon universe that everything follows. Yet, for the MCU, this might be a tad controversial, as it negates the importance of the comic version of 616.
IfDeadpool & Wolverine’s MCU timeline is 616, then it implies that the comic version doesn’t exist in the multiverse, and that the canon between the two same universes is fractured and not entirely comic-accurate. Regardless, it’s nice to see the 616 label drop in.
6The Deadpool Corps
Multiverse Deadpool Variants Form A Merc Corps
The Deadpool Corps is an annoying and infinite bunch of mercenaries who all don the red suit, providing the multiverse withalternate-reality Deadpool variants. Considering how intentionally annoying Deadpool is, it’s no surprise that the Void is filled with them. From Dogpool, Kidpool, Nicepool, Headpool, to Lady Deadpool. All of them feature, but not all of them have something to do.
It’s fun to see the multiverse variants of Deadpool, even if it is one that is celebrated through blood, limbs, and guts. Fans of the comics might recognize a few familiar variants, especially with the once-prominent member of the Deadpool line, Lady Deadpool.
5Rest in Peace Daredevil
Daredevil, Magneto, And The Punisher Did Not Survive The Void
When Deadpool and Wolverine are discovered by heroic survivors of the Void and Cassandra Nova’s attempt to enslave them, they are informed of other heroes who tragically lost their lives. Names like Magneto, Professor X, and the Punisher were all mentioned as dead, but the most striking is that of Daredevil, who would have once been played by the DCEU’s Batman, Ben Affleck.
It’s a sly joke at the expense of Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck’s former marriage, and it shows how brutal theDeadpoolmovies can be. Nevertheless, it’s a shame that Ben Affleck was unable to cameo as Daredevil considering the familiar faces already present.
4An Ode To 20th Century Fox
Meta Jokes And Commentary Are Made About Deadpool’s Former IP Handlers
Once dropped into the Void, Deadpool and Wolverine battle each other with the discarded logo of 20th Century Fox behind them in the dirt. It’s a funny set dressing, but it is also a harsh reminder and metaphor for the disappearance and buried nature of 20th Century Fox’s legacy going forward, as Disney now owns the company, which includes the iconic characters seen on-screen from the X-Men and Fantastic Four movies.
Seeing 20th Century Fox’s logo in the dirt is a hilarious commentary on how the studio has been renamed away from Fox and is instead now 20th Century Studios. It’s also a fun statement on how fans are happy tosee the Fox-verse of Marvel moviesdead and buried in the Void for the MCU’s chance to depict the characters.
3A Cowl 20 Years In The Making
Hugh Jackman Finally Wears The Wolverine Cowl
Towards the end of the movie, fans might be happy to finally see Hugh Jackman without the black leather and instead witha comic-accurate yellow costume for Wolverine, but something is notably missing. Despite the handsome nature of Hugh Jackman, it’s just not the same without a sharp cowl and white lenses. Luckily when it’s time to get dirty and fight the Deadpool Corps, Hugh Jackman wears the iconic cowl.
It’s the first time the one and only live-action Wolverine has worn the iconic cowl, and it only took 24 years to get to this point where it’s okay to be comic-accurate. Seeing the cowl in live-action is shockingly cool, and an easter egg that fans have waited for ever since they saw the black leather in the 2000’sX-Menmovie.
2Classic Cameos
The Marvel Universe Expands Past The MCU
Fans going intoDeadpool & Wolverinealready know that they will be treated to an abundance of cameos thanks to the trailers, but there are definitely going to be more surprises that they do not expect. The addition of Wesley Snipes’ Blade and even Chris Evans’ Human Torch is at a grand scale of excitement for veterans of the Marvel Universe.
There are many surprise cameos in store forDeadpool & Wolverine. Blade and the Human Torch are just the tip of the iceberg, but rest assured, these cameos serve the plot well and are not just thrown in for a quick opportunity to get a cheer.
1The Fantasti-Car
The Fantastic Four’s Iconic Vehicle Roams The Void
Riding across the Void, fans might spot a familiar futuristic-looking vehicle with the number 4 adorned on the hood. This floating ride is none other than the Fantasti-Car, built by Reed Richards to hold the Fantastic Four as they journey across the world for their wonderful adventures to save it.
The Fantasti-Car doesn’t get much attention, but it’s definitely noticeable for fans who know what to look for, and further confirms that variants of the Fantastic Four have been to the Void, but whether or not they share the same fate as Johnny Storm is unknown.
