Earlier this year,Dark Souls' somber and challenging world of Lothric made the jump to tabletop games withDark Souls: The Roleplaying Game. As fans get ready to dive into this new tabletop RPG conversion ofDark Souls, developer Steamforged Games unveiled a new set of miniatures, including a striking Guardian Dragon model fromDark Souls 2,now available for pre-order.
Steamforged Games launchedDark Souls: The Roleplaying Game’s first official rulebook on May 16 in the US. This tabletop conversion of FromSoftware’s popular RPG bases much of its framework aroundDungeons & Dragons’ fifth edition ruleset; however, numerous players have responded negatively to the first iteration of Steamforged Games’ rulebook for theDark Soulstabletop RPG. Ranging from minor grievances such as spelling errors to more significant issues like inconsistent rules and oversights in its gameplay mechanics, multiple players feel like the day one version of the rulebook is inadequate. Since these issues came to light, Steamforged Games has stated that it will revise its current ruleset and issue reprints free of charge for existing customers.

Along with a revised rulebook,Dark Souls: The Roleplaying Gamewill be receiving six new sets of miniatures now available for pre-order on Steamforged Games’ website. Featured among the myriad of miniatures are classicDark Soulsenemies, including models for Andor Londo’s Silver Knights and Hollow Crossbowmen, while the Unkindled Heroes Pack 1 and 2 feature models for each of the game’s 10 classes. Enemy and hero sets start at $24.95, while the Guardian Dragon boss fromDark Souls 2will cost players $49.95, likely due to its large size on a massive 110mm base.
Each miniature is 5e-compatible and Steamforge hints that this is only the first wave of models coming toDark Souls: The Roleplaying Game. Previous tabletop conversions of popular games from Steamforged includeDark Souls: The Board Game,Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game, andDevil May Cry: The Bloody Palace,each receiving a healthy number of expansions throughout the years. As a role-playing game in its infancy,Dark Souls: The Roleplaying Gameis sure to expand in the future with more miniatures and more expansion books.
Dark Souls: The Roleplaying Gameis only one of many jumps that FromSoftware’sSoulsseries has made past the medium of video games. In the aftermath ofElden Ring’s success, Bandai Namco has expressed interest in expanding the franchise “beyond the realm of games,” likely with comic book adaptations and novels. Only time will tell where fans will seeDark Soulsnext as Bandai’s games continue to receive anime adaptions and interest stays high in expanding existing IPs into the world of movies, television, and board games.
