A VR enthusiast, Luke Ross, created his VR engine called “VR Injection Framework” to create mods for games that previously did not have VR support. This includes first-person games and conquering difficulties with third-person games, where he had to make a fake camera first-person point of view for the VR mod, such as he did forMafia 3. At this time, the games modded still use a gamepad instead of VR controllers but offer a whole VR head-tracking experience. WithCyberpunk 2077recently trending onlineand the deep immersion of the game, it is no surprise that it was chosen out of the list.

In an interview with PCGamer, Luke Ross announced that the mod should be released soon. He is optimistic that the mod will be completed by January if nothing goes wrong. The game already being in first person is fortuitous, saving him time and the arduous task of creating a fake first-person camera. In the interview, he also mentioned the REDengine 4 that the game uses shouldn’t be too difficult to work with when making the VR mod. That is to say, it shouldn’t be any more complex than the other engines that he has worked with. On the other hand, none of the engines were particularly VR-friendly andCyberpunk 2077is still littered with glitches and bugs, which could cause some issues for the modder.

Ross has voiced his concerns about the project based on the game’s instability, despite numerous patches and updates since launch. Ross stated he is hopeful the mod will be finished before the games' next update, which fans hope will prioritizecar customization inCyberpunk 2077. Regardless of the issues, Ross' system will aid in the speedy mod delivery, as he mentioned during the interview: “Now that my modding framework is approaching some level of maturity, I can probably release one game per month on average".

Many VR owners expressed interest in the game’s potential for VR before the release. However, with the disaster of the full launch ofCyberpunk 2077, it comes as no surprise that Developer CD Projekt Red has no plans to create VR support for the game, though it has announced plans for anupcomingCyberpunk 2077expansion. Unless the developer changes its mind, this VR mod will be the only chance players will get to experience the game off a flat screen.

Cyberpunk 2077is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S releases scheduled for 2022.
