Cyberpunk 2077has been among the most anticipated games of 2020 since its initial release date reveal back in June of 2019. While the game will likely still meet the 2020 deadline, unfortunately,Cyberpunk 2077has been delayed again.
As is common with most high profile Triple-A games ofCyberpunk 2077’s size, the game has been delayed multiple times now. As a result, it seems that CD Projekt Red had an investor call detailing how the delay might impact the game’s launch on next generation hardware.

Fans of CD Projekt Red have been hotly anticipating the team’s next game since the phenomenal success that wasThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but many fans realizedCyberpunk 2077was far from release during the early days of its announcement. Even as recently as the end of May, CD Projekt Red announced thatCyberpunk 2077was entering the final stages of development, meaning the game still had plenty of aspects left to clean up and polish before release. That was probably the first sign that the game wasn’t going to meet its September release date.
Though the November 19 delay likely came as a surprise to many fans, the game is thankfully still on track to release in 2020, according to CD Projekt Red. This delay is undoubtedly a very smart move for the team. In a recent investor call, the team confirmed that players will be able to play the game on day one when the next generation of consoles launch. This is very interesting for multiple reasons, including how CD Projekt Red was previously playing coy withCyberpunk 2077’s relationship with the PS5despite it being confirmed on Xbox Series X. This also means that the next generation of consoles will likely launch near that November 19 date.
The investor call confirmed and clarified a number of different things that games media and players were curious about. For one, the game will run on the PS4, Xbox One X, PS5 and Xbox Series X on day one. Interestingly, the next generation versions of the game will look better than the last generation versions on day one. Finally, the team clarified that the delay was not a result of COVID, but more so because this last stretch of development was particularly demanding. Unsurprisingly so, asCyberpunk’s world looks to be intricately detailed and filled with anincredible number of NPCs with daily lives.
While the November 19 delay is a bit sad for some, many players are no doubt going to purchase the game as a launch title on next generation platforms. Ironically, this delay might mean that the game may now launch on Google Stadia, as it waspreviously coming everywhere else first. Though, the majority of players will no doubt go with either the PS5 or Xbox Series X.
Cyberpunk 2077releases November 19 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with Stadia and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
