Although many film franchises have managed to excel in the video game space, few can boast as many notable entries asStar Wars.With the likes ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order,the originalBattlefrontgames, andKnights of the Old Republicall garnering strong followings from the series' fans, it’s clear the blockbuster franchise has a long video game history filled with interesting takes on the property’s lore and characters. Luckily, it seems two games from that lineage are coming to the Nintendo Switch, with one of the pair launching as soon as today.
Coming via an announcement by developer Aspyr, it seems bothJedi Knight: Jedi AcademyandStar Wars Episode 1: Racerwill be making their way to Nintendo’s console alongside the PlayStation 4.Jedi Academywill be available today for $19.99, whileRacerwill be debuting on modern consoles at a yet unspecified date.

Jedi Knight: Jedi Academyis the final game in the cult-classicJedi Knightseries, with the sequel often being praised for its incredibly fun lightsaber combat and numerous online modes. It released back in 2003, however, it still a sizable community online who sing its praises to this day. It’s currently sitting at a respectable 81 on Metacritic, with user reviews on Steam granting the game an “overwhelmingly positive” reception overall. No doubt it will make a fine addition to any Switch owners collection if they choose to pick it up.
Star Wars Episode 1: Racerhas a similar cult following, with the title often being referred to as one of the better games in the franchise despite its lesser-known status. As the title indicates, it sees players take part in the notorious pod racing tournaments shown inStar Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace,allowing users to play as Anakin Skywalker or a number of other racers as they navigate across several tracks based within the series' universe. For many, it’s seen as a classic, and its port to Switch will no doubt bring a lot more players aboard to see what all the fuss is about.
This news coincidentally follows a number of new Switch announcements that were made today, with the likes ofBioShock, XCOM,andBorderlandsall making the jump to Nintendo’s beloved handheld console. Having titles likeJedi Academyis no doubt a good thing to see, especially as the Switch could always do with more classic games to pad out its already impressive lineup of games. Here’s to hoping that fans will see moreStar Warsgames debut on the console in the near future.
