The originalDeus Excame out in 2000 and is due to celebrate its 22nd anniversary this week. Considered one of the best PC games of all time and an absolutemust play RPG especially for fans of things likeMass Effect, the two-decade old title is one that many fans return to. At this point, it’s fair to say that a lot of people know the game inside and out, but a new mod has just been updated that aims to make each playthrough feel brand new even to veteran fans.
As spotted by PC Gamer, user Die4Ever has just unleashed version 2.0 of what they simply titleDeus ExRandomizer. As the name suggests, this takes the vanilla experience of the game and randomizes numerous aspects to switch things up. An accompanying video demonstrates some of this randomness, which includes altering the player’s starting position, mission objectives, objects, enemies, and it even randomizes some animations, making it possible for an enemy to dance for seemingly no reason. It even adds in support for the HX co-op mod.

The mod definitely seems like one to try, especially for those who are already familiar with the game. If nothing else, it will be amusing to see dancing enemies at random intervals. It’s also nice to see fans still giving some love to this classic. Last year, someone injected some diversity into the game with aDeus Exmod that turns protagonist JC Denton into a female character. The impressive thing about this add-on is that, as well as swapping out the character model, the creator also went to the trouble of re-voicing the lines to match the female protagonist.
Ion Storm’s 2000 release is easily one of the best stealth games out there, and even the likes ofDeus Ex: Human Revolutionis considered a solid espionage game. As highly praised as the new games were, many will still consider the original as the best entry in the series.
There has also beentalk of a possible newDeus Exinstallment. However, this has been denied by none other than Elias Toufexi, who voiced Adam Jensen inHuman RevolutionandDeus Ex: Mankind Divided. Many might see it as a shame if there isn’t a sequel, especially as it’s been a good few years since the last entry. But, for now at least, there are a few games in the franchise that fans can play, and thanks to Die4Ever’s mod, a new way to play the first one.
Deus Exis available on PC and PS2.
