Summary
Last year’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2was far from the worst entry in the long-running FPS franchise, but it also definitely wasn’t the best. With a lack of 6v6 maps on launch, some truly unnecessary changes to staple mechanics, and some disappointing new features,Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayerdidn’t hit quite as hard as its 2019 predecessor. However, according to Sledgehammer Games, this year’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is going to fix all of that.
Announced back in August and set for a November 10 release date,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is aiming to be a true crowd-pleaser. With16 remasteredModern Warfare 2mapscoming at launch, all of last year’s weapons carrying over, and some big walk-backs on Infinity Ward’s bizarre changes,Modern Warfare 3could be the ultimate experience thatCall of Dutyfans have been longing for. After all, the game’s 12 confirmed game modes are definitely a good sign of things to come.

Every Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Game Mode Confirmed So Far
There are a good handful ofCall of Dutymultiplayer game modesthat have become a staple of the franchise, and as such they’re just expected to be present in every new entry. Thankfully, most of these modes have already been confirmed forCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. As should be expected, Team Deathmatch and Free-For-All will be present inModern Warfare 3from the get-go. Classic objective-based modes Search and Destroy, Domination, Hardpoint, Control, and Headquarters will also all be available inModern Warfare 3at launch. These seven modes already give players plenty to work with, butModern Warfare 3’s multiplayer offerings don’t end there.
Two large-scale game modes make their return inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Both Ground War and Invasion will be available inModern Warfare 3, each accompanied by their own unique maps that drop players into a much larger warzone. WhileModern Warfare 3’s game mode roster is sorely lacking in party modes, much like the last few entries that came before it,MW3will still have Gun Game, giving players at least a bit of a break from the game’s more intense and competitive modes.
One of the more interesting modes onCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s rosters is War. A mode originally seen inSledgehammer’s ownCall of Duty: WW2, War is set to make its triumphant return inModern Warfare 3. A larger-scale mode, but not quite as big as Ground War or Invasion,Call of Duty’s War mode saw players be divided into teams of Attackers and Defenders, with the former having to complete a series of narrative-led objectives in order to advance and win the match. While it’s great to see this War mode return inModern Warfare 3, it seems as though Sledgehammer is only tentatively testing the waters with it right now, with only one War map being available at launch.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is also adding one completely original game mode. Called Cutthroat, not much is known about this game mode just yet, though it seems to revolve around 3v3v3 gameplay. Aside from these multiplayer modes,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3will also feature a fully-fledged campaign mode that’s set to bring back some iconic series characters, andan overhauled Zombies modethat sees players take on the hordes in an open-world setting.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3launches November 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
